bpwallace49
last night I was flipping channels and John carpenters "The Thing" was on. One of my favorite horror movies ever. Anyone else here prefer the older suspense based horror movies versus the new CGI stuff? A small list of some of my faves . . The Thing Children of the Corn The Shining . . .more to come . . . tazinib1
Strictly pre-CGI here and ones that made me crap my pants: Invasion of the Body Snatchers Dawn of the Dead The Exorcist Hellraiser and I'll throw Wally Wonka and the Chocolate Factory because of the Oompa Loompa's alone. Scary stuff when you are a rugrat. And yes, The Thing is one of the all-time greats.
i_am_the_swammi
The Exorcist, Halloween and The Omen were the three from my childhood that completely freaked me out. Nightmare on Elm Street was unique in that it touched on a subject that is unknown to all of us: dreams. Plenty of shocking parts that made it memorable. Who can forget Regan's slight head turn to look toward the door with those eyes and then the 360 head spin or when she slams the bookcase against the door and starts doing all the different voices? lennykravitz2004
When a Stranger Calls (1979 version). Saw it when it came out on video after the theater release when I was about 8 or 9 years old. And my cornhole puckered for a month every time the phone rang after dark. I hate them damn psychological horror flicks. Funny mentioning The Omen. My older brother and I watched that, and immediately checked each other for the "666" on our scalps.

I had not thought about it in years, but that boat ride scared the poop out me when I was a little kid. Not a speck of light is showing So the danger must be growing Are the fires of Hell a-glowing Is the grisly reaper mowing Yes, the danger must be growing For the rowers keep on rowing And they're certainly not showing Any signs that they are slowing
