tazinib1
It shouldn't even be close. John Wayne is an icon..a legend..but to be brutally honest, he wasn't really that good of an actor

I Like Soup
Definitely Eastwood, but that could be because he is more my generation than John Wayne.

John Wayne is an icon..a legend..but to be brutally honest, he wasn't really that good of an actor  that is not really true. a few performances off the top of my head that were simply outstanding....stagecoach, the shootist, and the searchers. I think you could make a pretty strong case, particularly if you only look at clint in westerns, that clint was the more one-dimensional actor. clint's type of western is more fashionable today, leading to a lot of the knee-jerk responses in his favor, but this is really a more difficult call than that sort of response would indicate. That's how it is with me as well. It's gotten to the point where, if I'm surfing and come across a Wayne flick, it may as well be Home Shopping Network, I'm moving on with a moment's pause. matt770
Clint Eastwood is by far my favorite actor. John Wayne is before my time and I've only seen a handful of his movies. Both are legends but I went with Eastwood.
Redfish
My daughter is a sophomore film student at SMU. This summer, she is interning at the American Film Institute in LA and worked the AFI Lifetime Achievement awards for Morgan Freeman this weekend. She escorted Clint to his seat Saturday night and said she got butterflies just being around him. She's not the starstruck type, so he must really cut an imposing figure. She sent pics and texts all weekend about meeting Spike Lee, Helen Mirren, etc. Pics with her and Spielberg, Matthew McConnaughy, Matthew Broderick. Sounds like she is having a good time.
