Duchess Jack
I didn't read anything past the first post. Didn't figure I needed to in a thread like this. My take: People might not like dealing with your smoke. You might not like hearing them complain. You both have the right to do so, so suck it up. You also might want to consider how many people might be bothered and not say anything. This should more than make up for a person being a little more forceful about it. With that said - what is more harmful - having to deal with other people's second hand smoke here and there, or having somebody cough (perhaps rudely) to show you they disapprove. Are you really that bothered by a fake cough? Man up. Walk on.
The Irish Doggy
except that it's not stopping there. there are the exorbitant taxes, and the bans are starting to extend to outdoor public places, even into homes and cars. if there is a large distinction, to me it is in the fact that this time, the "progressives" are taking a more incrementalist approach. which I am good with on some level, as I view smoking as a disgusting habit and I hate the smell. but I don't care for the basic tactics of using the law to coerce temperant behavior. Ah, well yes, that is some BS there.

detlef
When high, does anyone really not crave damn near any food? High or sober, everyone want's my toast. It's the stuff of legend. Even people brand new to the Huddle, like our dear lady of Cowboys know about it.

evil_gop_liars
yup. It's hard to find time to get baked. A nice three hours would be to smoke, take a cab to a movie theater that serves alcohol, and chill out during some romantic comedy with ashton kucher. Good god what are you smoking? ghey Josh Gordon. skylive5
Probably one of the neatest hijacks of a thread I have ever seen cliaz. You aren't interested in the subject being discussed so you introduce a subject dearer to your heart...illegal drugs. Which in turn grabs the attention of those with the attention span of mico-seconds. I have to say I am impressed. Now all you need to do is introduce midgets and sex and you will have succeeded in completely ruining the thread. Well done.

skylive5
Yep, and just when we were all about to agree. While I don't think that agreement on all sides was forthcomming.... I did think that the conversation was going quite well.
Croe
You have to be mindful of the wind direction, where you are and WHEN you can go grab a smoke. I'm probably the most polite smoker out there. I even hold my smoke in if a person is passing me or if a family with a child is coming near me. I'm the same way, I try to keep it away from others who don't smoke as much as possible. But I was getting my camera and other photography equipment out of my car last month for a photoshoot we were doing and one of my mom's bithcy old hag freinds was walking across the parking lot to say hi to me. there is no way she couldn't see me smoking as she aproached. When she got about 3 feet in front of me she says "oh God, do you really have to smoke here? that's disgusting." To which, as I exhaled smoke in her face as I responded, "I was smoking here before you parked your car, I'm not going to move because you decided to come in my space. Don't come next to me when I smoke and then bitch about it." Nu Wave Oven IT! I'm mad just thinking about it. the same rights u have smoking and walking they have coughing when they inhale that poison. now go make me a sammich Ha, damn I want a sammich now The coughing thing is lame. You've got legs - walk away from the smoker. Living in NYC, however, I do hate seeing all of the cigarette butts on the ground every time I go out. A smoker friend explained that he doesn't like to use the trash cans because they could catch fire. Fine - carry the incredibly heavy cigarette back inside and get rid of it there. I hate it as well, I flick the cherry and get rid of the but at the next garbage can I see.

Actually, illegal drugs are not near and dear to me and I disagree that the thread was going well. It was the same old non-smokers attacking smokers who are attacking non-smokers, ect. People in this world cannot leave people be. If a person chooses to smoke, that is their choice. People on the street want to make off-handed remarks about it, that is their choice. Taz wanted to vent to the huddle community, that was his choice. People wanted to respond back for or against it, that's their choice. I wanted to insert my own posts into the their, that's my choice. If people wanted to respond and take the conversation another route for some levity, that's their choice. I fail to see how this thread has been completely ruined. Edited December 9, 2011 by cliaz

Square
I disagree that the thread was going well. +1 It was another toast vs. az -fest and it was even more boring than usual because one side didn't even really believe in their argument. Personally, I don't like my clothes to smell like crap because someone else has a bad habbit. Maybe that's greedy but I'm fine with people doing stuff that they like as long as it doesn't bother others. I'm not going to fake cough because I'm not that passive aggressive but I'm not that surprised that some self righteous chick would do it. I'd just ignore them. True they are being a d-bag, but people do stupid things so whatcha gonna do.

tonorator
Maybe the dumbest thing I've read on here...and that says a lot. actually seems simple. I wouldn't deal blackjack in the smoking section of the casino. I have a choice where I work. That doesn't make me want to outlaw smoking in casinos. Let's take it a step further, all office buildings in the state allow smoking....now all non-smokers must decide on new careers that aren't in an office environment.
