Footballjoe
After almost 30 years of actual service I got the "pink slip" effective July 1, 2012. It didn't come as a complete shock but thought I was going to be safe for another year. The City is taking over my job. It makes sense, in fact I wondered for years why both the City and the Housing Authority each have a Demo Department. I am very fortunate that I can retire but its not nearly enough to live off of. Once I pay for Health Insurance, Survivior benefits and taxes my income will only be 1/3 of what I was bringing home. I will get 3 months severance pay and a large sum for unused vacation and sick leave. I should have enough funds to go (1) year without any changes in life style. I guess its time to get my handyman business in full gear or look for another job.

electricrelish
Sorry to hear that. Every time I've lost a job, it has sucked, but it always turned out to be a good thing in the end, so here's hoping that this change will lead to new opportunities! DMD
At least you do not have to make big changes immediately so it gives you time to figure out what will suit you best - that's a blessing inside of a unfortunate event. Think of it as this way - your next step gets to be whatever you choose. Best of luck.

muck
Change is oftentimes more painful when we're anticipating it than it actually is when we look back after the fact on how the process actually unfolded.

Ditkaless Wonders
Was it actually pink? Was it a physical piece of paper or was it an e-mail notification? Was there a face to face meeting? BTW, I am hoping this leads to an opportunity for you.
