He does a lot of little things right. Saw him throw at least one in the dirt when his internal clock told him it was time. Reached for that first down on the scramble (after correctly reading the DE on an option-type play and staying in-bounds to boot), Had a few mistakes on throws but overall pretty nice for such a young QB

I do wonder what would have happened with a full season with Trey Lance.  Probably because I drafted Lance on everyone of my fantasy teams and was counting on the cheat code of running plus whatever he did as passing as a bonus.  But, having Lance as a possible competent pass manager plus a weapon as running would have been fun to watch

Obviously there is no guarantee that Lance could manage the passing O.  But that had to be the plan from management.

Shanahan knows exactly what buttons to push with Purdy. The kid looks comfortable out there. He was benched and lost his starting job several times in College because he would go off the script, make dumb plays, etc. The talent was always there, he apparently just needed a Shanahan.

Is there an open QB competition next season if Purdy finishes the season strong?

I sure hope so Lance has proved nothing… if he would have went out injured in week 10 or so after balling and leading them to a winning record it’d be a little different. He’s not on a huge contract yes they gave up a $hit ton to draft him but it’s about winning and who gives you the best chance. Lance is a special athlete for sure but that doesn’t always translate to franchise QB. Time will tell but I’m glad they have that dilemma with multiple options shoot Jimmy might be in the mix still too… A QB controversy like a porno three way with changing parts every second haha 😂

You are.  He's been taken for granted and underrated perpetually.

IMO it's practically becoming cliche to JimmyG bash.   Yet year in and out he's a better "game manager" than a lot of "top" QB's.

Brock Purdy went 300 plus passing and  scored 4 TDs today as a rookie in his first playoff game.

That's as many TDS as Jimmy G has had in the playoffs over 6 game career with the 49ers (he has 4 TDs and 6 INTs in 6 playoff games).

Purdy may be more than a 3rd string QB, but people don't bash Jimmy G because it's cliché.   People bashed Jimmy G  because Jimmy G sucked.

Does he suck more or less than Baker, and all the other 50-60 NFL QBs on rosters who suck?

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35617339/sources-49ers-brock-purdy-set-elbow-surgery-feb-22

"On Wednesday, Purdy not only decided on a surgical option but set a date for the procedure. Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Purdy will have a UCL repair on Feb. 22 with an expected recovery time of about six months.

Given that timeline and the date of the procedure, Purdy could return sometime in the first few weeks of training camp when it opens in late July."
