Lawn Tractor

We moved last August from a house that sat on your typical .3 acres to one now that is on 1.25 acres. So, I went to Walmart and bought a Yardman riding lawn tractor. 20 hp and 42" deck. Some of you may recall me talking about this last fall. Got a good deal on it. Anway, the Yardman sucks ass. The transmission belt keeps coming off. Took it to the shop, and they said it would be 6 f'n weeks to get it fixed. I blew a f'n gasket literally. I call Wally world Lawn and Garden manager. New guy that wasnt there last fall. He says to bring it back and they will refund my money. I will see about that tomorrow and report back.

So I am back in the market for a mower. I need a lawn tractor that doesnt break down. There are alot of brands out there. Cub Cadet, Husquvarna, Toro, JD. I went to the John Deere dealership on Saturday and am seriously considering the X300. Does anybody have any other suggestions? I am going to a dealer because the mowers at Home Depot, Sears, WallyWorld, are crap I understand. any recommendations?

Oh, and forget Home Cheapo etc. They sell the low end Deere's, they're not really Deere's, just Scott's brand with a paint job. IMO, you'll get a lot more in a Simplicity Regent than you will in the X300 for about the same price.

I remember this coming up. If you did up that thread, there were a bunch of recommendations in it.

What you need to know is that HP is a luxury, and translates directly into speed.

Find a mower with a kohler or better engine (honda...kawasaki...robin, etc.). Te yard machine probably has a crap Briggs in it. The jap motors will last and do a nice job. The extra money on a purchase like this is generally worth it.

The brand names aren't all that important. Look under the hood.

If you were looking to 'cheap out', your best bet is a craftsman. At least Sears stands behind their stuff and will service you if you need it.

With all due respect, don't buy a f*cking Craftsman. Sears sells nice tools, ones that don't need gas to run. If they have a fuel tank, don't buy them at Sears. Ever. Ever.

I've seen some Craftsman riding mowers and I wasn't too impressed either. They do have some decent push mowers though.

:D Honestly I never have, but one of my good friends as well as my brother have had really great luck with their equipment they bought at sears. The snowblower lasted 10+ years and the lawn tractor has lasted several without any issues, and Sears was very good about dealing with questions.

But, again, that's the cheap out option. I am not recommending it, just sayin'...

I am usually the last guy to cheap out on something like this. But I did this time and I really regret it. Lesson learned. Wont happen again. I think I am going to go get that f'n JD X300 tomorrow and be done with it...

Hook is a landscaper, and in the old thread he said:

X-Mark mowers blow Dixie Choppers out of the water.

I have seen these things in action. Very sweet Maybe worth considering.

You guys are slipping...not one person in the 14 posts since the initial post have mentioned getting a flock of sheep...seems to me that's your obvious solution Spainly...unless you've already run that by the wife and she's jealous or something...  :D

Does it have the Kawasaki engine and the still frame supports? The dealer and most people I know basically say that the JD's at HD and Lowes are not the same as what you get at the dealer. How do you know what you are getting?

Uh, I think that's pretty accurate. Be careful when buying the JD's at Lowe's, as they're usually low end models, with John Deere paint jobs.

I just went out to Lowes website and dont see any 300 series at all. And notice that every JD they carry has that Briggs and Stratton engine which I have heard is garbage:
