Randall
Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett will file a grievance against an NFL official for aggressively grabbing him around the neck and pulling him to the ground during Sunday's game against the Bears at Soldier Field, according to his agent. Meanwhile, league sources tell ESPN that the official in question, umpire Jim Quirk, has been told he went "over the line" in restraining Barnett. A source said that NFL officiating director Mike Pereira warned Quirk by telephone that he should refrain from similar techniques when trying to break up a potential skirmish. No disciplinary action will be taken against Quirk, a source said, but that won't appease Barnett. "We're going to put our complaint in writing through a grievance, even if the league has warned the official," said Chuck Price, who represents Barnett. "This guy puts his arm around Nick's throat...he should get more than a warning. If Nick pushes [Quirk] to the ground just as a response, he'd be suspended and fined a couple of hundred grand." Packers coach Mike McCarthy was critical of Quirk following the incident. "I'll tell you what, I've never seen anything like that in all my years," McCarthy said. "I didn't see the whole thing but I thought the official was totally out of line the way he grabbed Nick around the neck and pulled him out of there. "There was a lot going on throughout the game on both sides of the ball after the play was over. Their offensive line was getting after Nick a bunch down the stretch. And that goes on in these types of games. I didn't see all of it but I saw the end of it. I thought it was totally unprofessional. I thought it was totally out of hand." NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has said McCarthy would not be disciplined for his remarks. Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

rajncajn
For such a good player Barnett sure does a lot of whining. I like his play, but the guy gets his feelings hurt at the drop of a hat.
Ursa Majoris
Not to disagree with the general sentiment about Barnett being a whiner but the official most definitely went over the top. He might have had the best interests of Barnett at heart but in general referees should never touch a player much less manhandle them. To do so invites real trouble. MikesVikes
Quirk should have held Barnett while one of the Bears beat the crap out of him. At least he took him out of harms way.

Gotta love the Bear fans being so happy that they beat a Packers team that will be going into the playoffs with the #2 seed. What did the Bears get out of winning this game??? Answer = a lower draft choice in all rounds. Winning that game only hurt and they will probably win again this weekend and get yet a lower draft pick. I can see how that does not hurt them. Whne you have a top notch QB, an awesome running game, a stacked WR corps, and a top 5 defense I see that the draft is not very useful anyway. Good job Bears and being a Packer fan - thanks. I don't like cheese but that paint thinner does not sound too bad after the holidays. Can't take ribbing? Sounds to me like you may have the same problem? My whole comment was ribbing. It was a good year for both Packer fans and Bear fans and Viking fans. Packers fans got to see a team overachieve and have a chance (I believe small chance) at getting to the big game. They also got to see the Bears team collapse and look comical at times. They also got to see the Vikings play horrrible at the beginning of the year and turn it around to give the fans hope and then lay an egg at the end like they have done so well in the past. Bear fans got to see the Bears sweep the Packers which I guess is the best outcome if not going to the playoffs. Congrats on that and for totally whipping the Pack in that last game. Vikings fans got a year with no boat scandal. - That is all I could think of for the Viking fans. Don't forget guys that suicide is a viable option. My Packer blinders had something to do with me missing that point. Anyone know if AP can drive a boat?
