irish
I haven't ever taken vitamins other than when I was a kid (Flintstones). However, since I've been on such a health kick- watching what I eat and working out as hard as I ever have, I was wondering if any of you take vitamins and if it makes a noticeable difference in your life with how you feel, etc. I know that I do not provide my body with all the nutrients that it needs on a daily basis because I just don't eat all the right things I should, so I went and bought Centrum Ultra Men's Vitamins and was going to give those a shot. Thoughts/feedback are greatly appreciated!

Before I even start, I demand pics (wife beater if possible) Talk to your local pharmacist about this, they are much more knowledgeable than your doctor (or us fools here on this website) on this topic. Highly recommend having your pharmacist recommend one for you. Edited March 6, 2010 by cliaz
irish
my wife sells nutritional supplements -- she still sells wine, but damn, this economy is making people only drink the cheap stuff -- and there's a lot of good and useless products on the market. We take vitamins, but there's other stuff out there to supplement your intake with. If you want, I'll have her PM you some info. but to answer your question specifically, yes, there's value in taking vitamins. That would be great. Being more informed can only help. Before I even start, I demand pics (wife beater if possible) Talk to your local pharmacist about this, they are much more knowledgeable than your doctor (or us fools here on this website) on this topic. Highly recommend having your pharmacist recommend one for you. First of all, at the pic request (I'm sure you recall the older one, looks similar to that). Secondly, I basically did exactly what you suggested in talking to the Pharmacist and he suggested the Centrum vitamin but in the same breath asked if I was having any health issues. I am not currently but told him that I know that I don't eat as well as I should and just wanted to provide my body with the vitamins/minerals that it needs. So taking the vitmain is all but a done deal. However, I wanted to see if anyone here experienced a difference in how they felt after they began taking vitamins versus prior to. BeeR
but to answer your question specifically, yes, there's value in taking vitamins. I don't necessarily disagree, but far as I know, it hasn't been conclusively proven to help much if at all and feeling better could be placebo as much as anything. Again this is only from what I recall when it came up before...if you have any links/etc showing otherwise, pls forward. Thx

Not trying to be a smart ass but why not focus your efforts on trying to eat better. What i've read on vitamins is that it's not necessary to take a crap load of them. Maybe 1 multivitamin a day. What i've read on vitamins is that it's not necessary to take a crap load of them. Maybe 1 multivitamin a day. I hear you and all I intend on doing is taking one a day. I have really focused very hard on eating much better which I have never done before in my life. However, there are just some things I, #1 don't like and #2 quite honestly don't want to track that closely to figure out how much of whatever food group I would need to meet all the requirements, especially if taking just 1 vitamin does that for me anyhow. When I say I've been eating better what I mean is almost no fast food, cut soda out completely and have really limited many of the snack foods I used to over-eat (ice cream, sweets, cookies and the like). Piles
If you are a healthy person and I am assuming you are then I would just recommend a multiple daily vitamin - don't waste your money on additional supplements. Centrum is fine but I would go with a generic store version of it. Save yourself some money. However, I would not expect you to notice a difference in how you feel. Chargerz
This is a website that I refer my patients to for information on vitamin supplementation. Basically a multivitamin and some extra vitamin D is all I recommend. Pregnant women can also take extra folic acid for neural tube defects (spinal cord abnormalities) prevention, but that's about it.

Looks like I'll just give the daily centrum a go and just know that I'm better off for it and not expect much else.
whomper
I guess I wouldnt classify this exactly as a vitamin but I find taking Metamusil tablets is a good method of digestive health.

matt770
I find alot of value in taking Fish Oil supplements. (I do also take a mens multivitamin). +1. Started taking it per the advice of my optometrist (dry eye from sitting in front of a computer all day). It's been helpful for that issue, plus I feel like I have more energy. Also my boners are larger and harder, orgasms are longer and more intense and I shoot almost double the volume/distance.

Avernus
I find alot of value in taking Fish Oil supplements. (I do also take a mens multivitamin). Fish Oil can go bad quickly and is toxic when it starts to lose it's shelf life even though you won't be able to tell the difference....as goes for Krill Oil... Borage and Flax oil are good choices...
Double Agent
I was in the vitamin business for part of college. So much of it is a scam. Just take a cheap multi. I too recommend fish oil. It's hard to get all your Omegas in food alone. I also supplement protein.
