Bronco Billy
What's up w/ the McMichael cut? I would bet it's tied to a large roster bonus.
Flypaste
Link I found this but there is no mention of Harrington... Dolphins release McMichael, trade WelkerBy JEFF DARLINGTON jdarlington@MiamiHerald.com Related Conten Coach Cam Cameron's roster overhaul took its most dramatic turn of the offseason Monday. In one afternoon, the Dolphins parted ways with last season's two leading receivers, releasing tight end Randy McMichael and trading wide receiver Wes Welker to the New England Patriots. The Dolphins acquired two draft picks for Welker from the Patriots -- one in the second round and one in the seventh, a source said Monday. By releasing McMichael, who currently holds the team's all-time records for catches and receiving yards by a tight end, the Dolphins will avoid paying him a $3 million roster bonus that would be owed to him in the coming days. The Patriots initially were planning to sign Welker to an offer sheet as a restricted free agent, a source said. But by instead making a trade with the Dolphins, both sides avoided some of the tangles that can occur when dealing with restricted free agents. Welker, a fan favorite in South Florida, was undrafted out of Texas Tech. He has played three years in Miami, where he became known for his relentless work ethic and toughness as a kick returner. Last season, he also broke out as the team's leading receiver in the slot. He finished with a team-high 67 catches, gaining 687 yards with one touchdown. The team has already taken some action to replace McMichael, signing Packers tight end David Martin as the first free agent acquisition of the offseason. Martin, who caught 21 passes in 11 games for Green Bay last season, is known as a pass-catching tight end. He has played the past six seasons in Green bay. McMichael was the team's second-leading receiver last year, finishing the season with 62 catches and 640 yards. However, he has also fallen under some criticism in the past two years for dropping some passes. Nonetheless, McMichael's future with the team did not come into jeopardy until Cameron's arrival. McMichael signed one of the only significant contract extensions during the Nick Saban era, a move that made it clear how Saban felt about him. The extension was a four-year deal worth $18 million in 2005. With two seasons remaining, however, Cameron decided to go in a different direction by saving the $3 million bonus owed to him this offseason. Fantasy Jesus
Happy Day in Miami as the rebuild begins. Goodbye Harrington & McDropalot. And Wes Welker was traded to the Patriots today for a 2nd & 7th rd draft pick.
Duchess Jack
I am causiously optimistic. Whatever the heck is going on - it is anything but the 'same ol' same ol' kills me though that we could not unload McMicheal for... heck, even a fifth
broncosn05
Funny how far McMichael dropped.
Furd
See. Harrington only needed a change of scenery. The Lions just didn't give him a fair shake.

Swampnuts
McMichael was nothing but a wife beater. Good to see him get booted. He may like to slap around his wimmins, but he sure won't be unemployed long. I'd love to see the Panthers sign him. They need a TE like I need a free week at the Bunny Ranch. Randall
He drops too many passes? I guess you haven't seen David Martin play. $3million roster bonus pay comes out of petty cash these days. If they did drop him for wife beating I wish they'd say so. That I could get behind.

I would LMAO @ CAR if they did. Let's see...he's about as reliable as the weather, he's a loser, he'll want way too much coin.....yeah what an addition he's make I would like to see the Colts sign Harrington (for vet min of course). Nothing great but has at least looked good sometimes (and at least beats Sorgi). Maybe Manning can help him somehow and he'd pan out in a Frank Reich kinda way. Worth a shot anyway. I disagree as far as McMichael goes. The Panthers TE's suck out loud. McMichael may not be what he was, but he's still a helluva improvement. That position has been dead in Carolina since Wesley Walls retired. You'd stick with Michael Gaines or Mike Seidman over Randy McMichael? Would you take him over McMichael at this point?

You'd stick with Michael Gaines or Mike Seidman over Randy McMichael? He was a blocker last year on a bad team and still caught 60+ balls. That's as bad as it gets for him. He will better any team he goes to. and didn't Graham go to Minny? Edited March 6, 2007 by Duchess Jack

Bronco Billy
Hell, we'll take Harrington here to back up Cutler, though I'm sure he'll be trying to seek out a starting gig somewhere (his potential is still fairly strong despite his DET debacle). The TE at Carolina will remain dead as long as they continue to not call any plays for the TE and Delhomme is informed that he can actually throw to that guy with a number in the 80s that lines up near the tackle. This should change this year with Jeff Davidson being the new OC. Cleveland used the heck out of Kellen Winslow last year, and Hurney had completely ignored the position in the Panther's offense. It would be nice to see them have a threat at the position.
