Cyclones
I've got a critter of some type in my back yard digging holes and leaving mounds of dirt on the lawn. The mounds are usually 6-12" in diameter and a few inches high. Two questions - 1) what kind of animal is it? 2) how do I get rid of it. Please help! If its a mole or three, you should also have slightly raised tunnels in the yard as well. I suggest diligent use of mole traps.

They live under houses, in particular mine. It sounds like you have moles/voles. They are probably after grubs. You can get something to put on you lawn to kill the grubs and the moles/voles will leave. This takes a while though. You can also get different type of traps to kill the varmits. You should be able to find it at your local Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
Hugh 0ne
Depends where you live. One way to get rid of it is to pour some gasoline in the hole and light it on fire. Just be careful.

Dutch Oven
Here's few ideas: http://www.gardeners.com/on/demandware.sto...ole&SC=XNET8005 The Shake-A-Way stuff works pretty well. Apparently, it contains the scent of fox urine, a predator of moles, and that keeps moles away. You can also find fox urine at hunting stores too. That has been pretty effective for me. Well, that and my dogs tearing the sh!t out of my yard.
PaulOttCarruth
Sounds like a pocket gopher. Save a trip to home depot. Hook a hose/tube up to the exhaust pipe on your car. Stick it down the hole. Fire it up. Let the car run for 10 minutes. Problem solved.

Hugh 0ne
If you try the gasoline trick, just be careful, as you'll have a 2-3 foot high flame coming out of the ground that will burn for about 15 minutes. I'm not quite sure of the environmental impact either.

Big Red
My brother in law has a horse farm, and they had a big rat problem before they moved their farm. His solution was to pour radiator fluid in several holes. Stupid animals eat it up, then die.
Cyclones
Need more info. Where do you live, how big around and deep are the holes. etc. I live in Lexington, KY. They aren't holes so much as they are mounds of dirt. Usually one or two new ones every day, in the same general area.

wiegie
1) Put on some plastic gloves. 2) Open a stick of juicy-fruit gum. 3) Put the stick of gum in the critter's hole. The mole will eat the gum and it will clog up its intestines and eventually kill it.
