If I am running a tab, 20+% But this whole tipping everyone things, drives me crazy yep I know there are folk you tip at Christmas and such... but.... do you put anything in the jar on the counter of a takeout place? almost never. if I am a real regular at a place, I will drop my change in the jar. I worked many years of counter service, never got tipped, and never expected it do you tip repair men? no do you tip contractors? no Taxi Drivers? alwats Maids (per visit)? professional maid service, or at a hotel? Missoula Griz
Just spent 10 days at Newport beach and Disneyland. No reason to tip, the Bassstards include a 15% gratuity on all food and alcohol. This system just makes for bad service.
darin3
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. I don't. Usually like 2-3 bucks. About 20%. I tip around 20% +/- at restaurants I usually do too. If the service stunk, I'll drop it to 15%. I tip $5+ for a haircut I get cheap haircuts and tip 20%, which would be 2-3 bucks. I tip $20 for a delivery guy (furniture and such) No experience with this. I tip around $20 to a made when on vacation Wasn't sure if this was standard practice or not. I don't. I tip the dealer at a casino table between $5 and $20 I'll tip at a poker table I tip bartenders around $1/drink That's about right, or if I run a tab I'll give 20+%. But this whole tipping everyone things, drives me crazy I know there are folk you tip at Christmas and such... but.... do you put anything in the jar on the counter of a takeout place? Yeah sometimes, leftover change maybe do you tip repair men? No. do you tip contractors? No. Taxi Drivers? Absolutely. At least 20% Maids (per visit)? No experience. Who else? MikesVikes
The wife tips the barber but she's a friend of the family and drives to our house. My barber gets tips when he wins the office pool I run. Suffice to say, he's never earned one yet.
detlef
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. about that I guess I tip around 20% +/- at restaurants more if the owner of the place is a regular at mine I tip $5+ for a haircut shave my own head I tip $20 for a delivery guy (furniture and such) about the same I tip around $20 to a made when on vacation same I tip the dealer at a casino table between $5 and $20 I forget, it's been so long I tip bartenders around $1/drink most places I go, I run a tab so it ends up just being like a waiter But this whole tipping everyone things, drives me crazy I know there are folk you tip at Christmas and such... but.... do you put anything in the jar on the counter of a takeout place? do you tip repair men? yup, especially if they're quick or save me some money do you tip contractors? they actually end up buying me something kind of like a realtor Taxi Drivers? of course, about 15-20% Maids (per visit)? Once a year thing Who else? The places I make a point of hitting the tip jar with anything more than chump change is like a local place that makes freaking stellar espressos. It's always an extra $1 for the $3 cap. However, I refuse to give even a penny to the shmuck who takes my money and hands me an empty cup so I can go fill it with coffee myself. Gee thanks. Basically, I tend to draw the line at things that I am absolutely happy to do myself. Dude standing in the men's room who turns on the sink and hands me a towel? Are you freaking kidding me? God I hate that crap. Edited May 4, 2007 by detlef
SayItAintSoJoe
Dude standing in the men's room who turns on the sink and hands me a towel? Are you freaking kidding me? God I hate that crap. I can at least tip a guy doing this if he is offering me a real towel. But these guys that want a tip for handing me a piece of paper towel they just tore off of the dispenser need to get a life. BeeR
I tip waitresses, barbers and pizza deliveries 15-20%, assuming of course service was at least decent. I'll tip a bit more if it was out-of-the-way good. Everybody else can shove their tip requests (I did tip @ bars but never go to those any more), including buffets (and takeout? what the flip?) Azazello1313
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. same here I tip around 20% +/- at restaurants ditto I tip $5+ for a haircut i get cheap haircuts and tip about $3 I tip $20 for a delivery guy (furniture and such) never tipped one of these. i mean, i'm paying like a $100 delivery charge, seems like that ought to about cover it I tip around $20 to a made when on vacation i've tipped a few times after long stays, but not more than $5 or $10 I tip the dealer at a casino table between $5 and $20 good form i guess, if you win I tip bartenders around $1/drink a little less for me. like if i get a beer for $3.50, they get fittycent, not a buck. in general, it is my opinion that pizza delivery guys get tipped too little and bartenders (and other people who stand at counters) get tipped too much But this whole tipping everyone things, drives me crazy I know there are folk you tip at Christmas and such... but.... do you put anything in the jar on the counter of a takeout place? never do you tip repair men? never thought of it, they charge too dam much in the first place do you tip contractors? see above Taxi Drivers? definitely, in the 15-20% range, same as a waiter or haircut Maids (per visit)? probably would if i had one Who else? if i ordered a foofoo coffee drink (which i won't, because i am a heterosexual man), i would probably tip the "barrista". but for pouring me a $2.50 cup of black coffee, no friggin way. bellboy - buck a bag Edited May 8, 2007 by Azazello1313
KevinL
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. Thanks! Just so you know, my average tip is between $2-$3. A $5 tip will get you remembered and will get you your food ASAP. If you let me know what you like, it will get you an extra cup of garlic sauce, jalapenos, etc, whenever I deliver your order. A $2 tip is appreciated but nobody will fight over your order. No tip and the driver may stop for gas on the way to your house.
jaxfactor
Who else? Just curious if you all tip your mail carrier, especially one who uses baby powder so he doesn't smell like sh*t stains. Seriously, as a mailcarrier myself I'd like to know. We have had customer relations people come on the radio and TV and actually tell people not to tip the mailcarriers. That really pisses me off. I tip mine between $20-30, depending on how good they are. I have found in my 20 years of service that only about 15-20%(if that) of people on my route(s) have tipped. I have 600+ deliveries on my current route and have often thought that if every one of those people gave me a buck, that would be a nice Christmas present. But I'm lucky if I make $300.00. My old route was in a fairly ritzy neighborhood and I made $700+ before I left for my current route. I have talked to carriers who have worked up north and they all seem to say the same thing; that people tend to tip better up north.

Perchoutofwater
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. 20%, $5 minimum assuming it is close to on time and still hot. I tip around 20% +/- at restaurants It depends on the service any where from nothing to 30%. I've waited tables and have no problem stiffing a waiter if the service is crappy for no reason, on the other hand if the guy/gal is slammed and the service isn't all that great I'll usually tip a little bit better than service dictates because I know what they are going through. I tip $5+ for a haircut $5-10 depending on what is in my wallet. I tip $20 for a delivery guy (furniture and such) Depends on the quantity of stuff they have delivered, and if electronics if they are setting it up. $20 is a good place to start if it is a heavy item or a complicated set up. I tip around $20 to a made when on vacation Depends on the type of place I'm staying, how long I'm staying, and how much jizz gets on the sheets. I tip the dealer at a casino table between $5 and $20 Depends on how I'm doing. If the dealer is showing me some love, I'll show him/her some love. If I'm getting taken to the cleaners then forget about it. I tip bartenders around $1/drink I rarely go to bars anymore. But this whole tipping everyone things, drives me crazy I know there are folk you tip at Christmas and such... but.... do you put anything in the jar on the counter of a takeout place? No do you tip repair men? No do you tip contractors? No, but if I'm your contractor feel free. Taxi Drivers? Yes, provided they get me there per the most direct route Maids (per visit)? Who else? Maitre d - I went into a restaurant in New Orleans (It was either on Bourbon or right off of it on a Friday night) a couple of weeks ago with a party of 10 and was told it would be a 2 hour wait. I slipped the maitre d a $100 and told him we had a diabetic with us that needed to eat immediately and got a table in 15 minutes. Masseuse - if it is at a resort, or if they come to my house. Usually $20 at the resort, $40-$50 if they come to my house. Bellhop - $5 per bag. Valet Parking - $5 The kid that gets my cart that brings the golf cart out to my car, and puts my clubs on it, and then cleans my clubs and puts them back in the car after the round $5-10 depending on how good of a job he does on my clubs. The mailman and the guy that delivers the dry cleaning get Christmas presents. And last but not least we can't forget about all those single moms. A good lap dance always gets a tip. twiley
I tip pizza delivery guys around $5. I tip around 20% +/- at restaurants I tip $10 for a haircut and then $75 at the end of the year. I also go to a high end place where I get drinks, washes, and other grooming perks that most places charge for. I tip $10-20 for a delivery guy (furniture and such) I tip around $50 to a maid when on a week vacation I tip bartenders around $1 for a beer, $2 for liquor I tip $25-$50 to the Maitre d if necessary I tip the garbage man $75 at the end of the year, he'll pick up anything from my house now. I tip the valet $5-$8 depending on the upfront fee.

KevinL
I tip the people at La Quinta Inn who jumpstart my car. I drive a beater and when I shut off the engine, the lights lose power. Three times in the past 5 months I have accidentally left my lights on. I called AAA the first time and it was a 2-3 hour wait. I was parked at the train station where I ride downtown (Cleveland) to work. Right across the street is a La Quinta Inn. I went over there hoping they might have jumper cables. They don't, but they do have a little charger box. They were very helpful. It took less than 5 minutes and I tipped them $4 or $5 each time, depending what I had in my wallet. Now that it's the 3rd time, they pretty much recognize me.
