rocknrobn26
So yesterday I booked a trip. Gonna be staying at The Venetian in May. I know for a fact that last year they were getting/asking ~$350/ night on weekdays and $400+ on weekends. I got it for $149x3 and $209x1. Plus $80 off Orchestra seating (dead center) for "Jersey Boys", $30 off a spa treatment, $12 shuttle (THEIR shuttle) to and from the hotel (a cab is at least that), some 2 for food credits, with a robe and slippers (I'll guess I can take the slippers, but not the robe )! The Flam was gonna give me free rooms, but those old rooms can be really nasty. A "Go Room" upgrade was $110/night, but the room at Venetian is twice the size. Yeah, I know "You don't spend that much time in the room.", but the wife and I haven't stayed at a non-Harrah's property for 20+ years, so I said WTH, change is good. Plus the wife loves the Fashionshow Mall so we'll be a lot closer. The guy I spoke to on the phone said they had $10 single and double deck Blackjack. Wow... if that is true. Questions: Is this a deal? Have any of you stayed there? If so, any tips (I have the maître d's card from Delmonico's if needed)? Restaurants? Quick eats? TIA

Big Country
Very good deal for the Venetian. I have not stayed there but have heard from others that have that the rooms were pretty nice. I've heard lots of rumblings that quite a few of the major players in Vegas are close to bankruptcy - MGM/Mirage, harrah's and the Station Casinos. That is a hugh percentage of the strip right there if true (basically they are trying to restructure debt due to interest payments being due, failing that, bankruptcy is next step) and so they are desperately trying to entice people to stay and play at their properties. HowboutthemCowboys
Off topic but the wife and I were in AC this past weekend friday - Sunday. We wondered if they would be slow due to the economy. Spent all our time at the Trop and it was jam packed the whole time FWIW.

Harrah's FWIW, is the biggest casino holder in the world, from what I have read. technically it's not even harrah's anymore, nor hasn't been for a year or more. So you're point is well taken. The rooms look gorgeous! Our room... Pick the "Venetian Luxury". And that's the cheapest. Thanks for the comment. Anyone else?
rocknrobn26
Nice. That's a good deal for the Venetian... I thought so, Pope. TY. Again I haven't stayed away from the Harrah's/Hilton properties in 20+ years, except for the MGM on a business conference x2. Last time was 2001, right after 9/11 (Nov.). The place (city) was a ghost town, and I upgraded to a mini sutie there for like $20 a night. Beautiful room.
Ursa Majoris
When I checked recently, some rooms at the north end of the Strip were at $30. Not flophouses either but obviously not front and center. Trump Towers was only $85 / room for the weekend.
Chargerz
Hey, rr, hopefully Vegas is hurting enough that they'll give you a heavy dose of good customer service. In recent years that has seriously been lacking!!

KICK A$$ BLASTER
Last month my wife and I stayed at the Wynn for $129 per night, which was a weekday rate. Last week, my in-laws stayed at Encore, which is next to the Wynn for $149 per night. I have stayed at the Venetian and while nice, it doesn't hold a candle to either of the new Steve Wynn properties...
bushwacked
When I wasn't using my Harrah's points for a free romantic weekend with GTS at the Imperial Palace in WCOFF 2008; I got rooms at Caesar's Palace with my wife for $150 a night during WCOFF 2007. I finagled the low cost at Caesar's and had the girl at the desk unsuccessfully try for an upgrade for 15 minutes (her 15 minute effort, my one simple question). I didn't gamble near as much last year, so I'm down to $30/night at Imperial at WCOFF (we are talking online here). Imagine things are getting easier these days. TDFFFreak
Things are getting a lot cheaper these days in Vegas. The Venetian is very nice. It may not be the Wynn or Encore (both of which I hear good things about the rooms), but I think it's almost as good as it gets for standard rooms in Vegas. I like the Venetian/Palazzo propery and casino: decent location and very nice facilities. I am headed to MGM Grand for a few nights and got all nights comped. I am not a huge bettor and have never gotten a free room for 3 nights at the Harrah's properties without a friend's comp code, which tend to be easier to get free rooms at. A while back I had a very good meal at Postrio (I believe that what it is called) at the Canal Shoppes. FYI, beware the $10 single, double shoe blackjack as I imagine they don't pay full odds on hitting a blackjack. Unless you are counting, look for the 6 shoe, non-continual shuffle machine with the better odds. But I am guessing you know all this. CaP'N GRuNGe
Still never been to Vegas. All I can say is attendance has got to be pretty dismal for casinos to be facing bankruptcy. I mean c'mon, everybody knows the house always wins, and big, right?
Skippy
They must be hurting otherwise the offers in the mail would not be getting better and better each month.
TimC
IMHO, the Venetian is the nicest place in Vegas (an argument can be made for the Bellagio). Did you just call 'em up or was this a flyer? I get promotional stuff from Harrah's, Mirage and LV Hilton all the time with some screaming deals lately. They are hurting.
cre8tiff
The Venetian is A-1. Have lunch in the restaurant beside the canal in the second story of the "fake" Venice. I can't remember the name, but excellent food. Tao was good as well, but a bit pricey. Edited March 25, 2009 by cre8tiff

Exactly, I think I got a $500 check sent to me last month to come and stay.

Unless you are counting, look for the 6 shoe, non-continual shuffle machine with the better odds. But I am guessing you know all this. Yeah, I'll give them the 3:2 vs 2:1 for BJ, as there aren't that many BJ's in a single/double deck game. I'd prefer to get more doubles and splits, plus it gives the choice of splitting/doubling a BJ. Not as crazy as it sounds w/ a 3:2 payout. Plus I like to handle the cards, no advantage really, I just like it. As far as six deck shoes, most if not all casinos on the strip are using 8 deck shoes. Get stuck in a bad shoe and it's time to walk. In single and double it seems to me that the dealer streaks don't last very long, but that's MHO. IMHO, the Venetian is the nicest place in Vegas (an argument can be made for the Bellagio). Did you just call 'em up or was this a flyer? I get promotional stuff from Harrah's, Mirage and LV Hilton all the time with some screaming deals lately. They are hurting. Went to their site saw a price. Called and it was higher, but I just mentioned the web price and he gave it to me, including the ~$200 cash to spread around on shows, meals, spa, etc..
