cultural diversity

Well now Ive seen it all - I work for an insurance Co. Well receently they have moved a bunch of IT guys onto my floor. Several (99 percent) are of Indian heritage. What I find most curious is that one guy takes off his shoes and pants when he rtakes a dump. So when you walk into the restroom - you'll see a pair of shoes on the ground, a crumpled up pair of pants and stocking feet hanging there.

I guess it must be some kind of cultural thing - Im trying to decide if I should teach him the American cultural tradition of stealing those pants out from under the stall door and flipping off the restroom light on the way out

Gotta be the Oracle DBA / apps support folks. Indians dominate those fields.

"Abraham Lincoln once said, 'If you are a racist, I will attack you with the North,' and those are the principles I carry with me into the workplace" - Michael Scott.

Is it racist to be shocked by finding a pair of pants and shoes on the floor and a pair of feet in only white socks dangling down from the crapper

If you feel it is necessary to ask....

if they all did it, then it would be a cultural thing. Since it is only one guy who does it, I'd say it's a nutjob thing.

(I work with lots of Indians and I've never seen this sort of thing--of course, I don't go around peering underneath bathroom stalls either.)

You try getting chased out of your homeland 400 years ago and given nothing in return but some casinos and a case of Busch Light every year. Just now are those Indians feeling okay about returning to their roots and taking off their pants while they take a dump like they used to in the woods long before the white man arrived.

That's because you don't have to even bend down to see under the stall.

I didn't know Capital One had offices in PA now.

See tons of em every day and never saw/heard of this. I agree that it's probably a nutjob thing (but hey if that's the worst thing the guy does......).

However I do notice some of them have this love of the bathroom sink. I mean they don't just wash their hands, but their face, half-way up their arms - I'm half surprised (and glad) they don't strip and jump into it like a mini-bathtub. Oh and sorry but I find this gross, they also cup their hands and drink from it, even tho right outside of the bathroom is a kitchen-type sink where the coffee is. And sometimes they wet the soles of their shoes, wth?

I work with a white dude that admits that he has to get completely unclothed to take a dump.

honestly, I am a Castanza and cannot stand having a shirt on when taking a dump. Something about the shirt tail too close to the toilet water.

also, I do not like wearing shoes, either. they get in the way of the pants around my ankles. I have to take off my shoes.

BUT, this is at home ONLY... when I worked in a skyrise (where I met Scooby, btw) I would only pee and try to get in and out asap. b/c of the foreigners who would live in the bathrooms. I have literally had to introduce deodorant to several co-workers.

The office I work in is probably 50% of indian heritage. We've had to post signs saying that garglins, rinsing and spitting, drinking from the faucet, etc. from the break room sink is not okay.... gets done in the bathroom though.

Never see nanyone drop trow completely, that;s a new one and probably a nutjob thing.

Funny thing is, watching the show Outsourced has taught me a few things, such as the head bob being the customary way of acknowledging that you are listening instead of saying thinks like ok, or mmhmm. At first I thought we had hired a few people with Tourette's, but ofrtunately that was not the case.

Over the years we have had quite a few people from the Hmong culture work in our plant. It was at least 10 years ago when I was standing at the urinal doing my business when all the sudden in the stall next to me I realized feet appeared that weren't there a minute ago. Toilet flushes and out comes one of the Asian guys. Several of us started to notice this over time. Turns out some of the older males wouldn't sit down to take a dump. They'd climb up on the toilet, plant a foot on each side of the rim of the toilet bowl and then squat down over the bowl and take their dump. Don't notice it as much anymore, but there's still one older guy that's been here for 20 years that still won't sit down.
