Will Smith laying it down at the Oscars

So, after a joke told by Chris Rock about Jada Pinkett Smith starring in GI Jane II because of her bald headed look,  Will Smith strolled up to Rock while he was announcing the next award and b!tch slapped him across the face. He then followed it up by yelling at him not to use his wife's f%^&%^ing name in his jokes. Rock then had to go on like nothing happened with his award announcement. Brutally painful and uncomfortable.

Anyone else see this tonight?

For it not being a funny moment that's funny!  I literally laughed out loud reading this.

Exactly like that, unfortunately.  I had a pit in my stomach all night and even today seeing it.

Staged

Unfortunately, it wasn't. When it first happened, I thought and was hoping it was. This destroys Will Smith's reputation, especially for those who won't need much of a reason. My neighbor is a black guy and he called me and was sick to his stomach, saying how this sets the African American community back, especially in the world of Hollywood, where there were already issues. This will follow/haunt Will Smith for the rest of his career and life in general.

I feel bad for Chris Rock (although he handled it really well and came out of this as the victim and heroic class act). Even though it was terrible for Smith to do, I feel badly for him and what he must be going through to do this as well. I wasn't aware that Jada had balding or hair issues, which obviously struck a cord with Will.  They've also been getting a lot of media attention for the past year or so for the fact that they have an open marriage and that Jada had a relationship with an R&B singer. They even poked a little fun at that in the beginning of the show last night.

Listen, I wish it were staged. For the first image, it could easily be said that Rock was bracing to be hit,  like anyone would do in a real situation. 2nd image shows/ explains nothing.

Hollywood gonna be Hollywood, most people don't care much about their antics. Maybe Chris Rock should make jokes that aren't going to offend people in the audience who can kick his ass. Maybe Will Smith should chill out and realize he and his wife ain't all that. Sure some people will react, I'm sure social media was all "abuzz" about it since it happened, with people calling out various people involved or using hyperbole to say how it will impact the view of blacks in the entertainment industry.

I'm not so sure about that. For some reason he was allowed to continue like nothing happened. Why wasn't he immediately arrested or at the very least escorted out of the building?

I thought the same thing. I feel like there wasn't response at first because people thought it was staged and then, after all, it's Will Smith, so he got the huge benefit of the doubt. However, it was obvious assault and us regular folk are surely in jail.

Chris Rock chose not to press charges, would regular folk still be in jail if the victim doesn't press charges?

I know that domestic assault is different, and will often result in arrest and charges even if the victim doesn't want that.

One thing I find interesting is how many are attacking Will Smith about this, would they stand by and watch somebody make fun of their wife like that? Especially in front of so many people, and broadcast on TV? One story I read made a good point, Smiths bad behavior does not mean Rock's joke was acceptable.

Obviously, a rhetorical question. However, we all know why Rock chose not to press charges. That would have drastic ramifications and he saw the bigger picture.

Except you didn't phrase it as a question at all, you made a statement that regular folk would be in jail in the same situation. Yes if the victim pressed charges, which didn't happen here.

If this happened among 2 average guys it probably doesn't end with one person being slapped. Probably gets a lot more violent and 2 people in jail.

Silly man, I was referring to yours, which I bolded, as being a rhetorical question, as obviously I didn't ask one.

How about the slap down to EVERY comedian from now on? In any city in any state and in any country all performers will be wondering who will be the next Smith to prove a point. Will it be an open hand or a closed one or will it be griping a gun? This was bad for everyone anywhere.
