rocknrobn26
Anyone? Tips? What airport? Hotel? Other things to do there? Other than the falls I'd like photo ops. Gardens, architecture, etc.. Help?
Guest Chappy
Sorry, no advice (as I haven't been) other than don't get too close to the edge.

dabuffbills
Last time I was there (about 2 years ago) They were in the process of building a big casino on the American side. Other than that, there's almost nothing on the American side to do. If you want entertainment and a range of hotels to choose from, you're going to have to go over to the Canadian side of the falls. Ursa Majoris
Canadian side has some really good strip clubs. Niagara is really only worth a weekend, IMO. Toronto is a good city to visit, though, and it's close by.
Egret
The casino is nice. It's been a few years since we've been there. We stopped for the night on our way to Vermont for skiing. There were plenty of touristy type places like the Guinness museum. I'd also recommend driving the extra miles to Toronto or even better, Montreal. Grits and Shins
I highly recommend you check out the Cave of the Winds tour. It lets you get up close and personal to the falls. A ride on the Maids of the Midst is a requirement as well. I could not stop taking photos.
Kid Cid
Been there a couple of times and Grits pretty much nailed it. The Canadian side gives a much better view of the falls, although a walk through the park on the American side is nice. As others have said, good for a weekend, not much more. twiley
As mentioned above, Maids of the Mist is a must and I forget the name of the place but there's an outside cafe on the Canadian side that's great for viewing the falls at night. whoopazz
What Grits said. Canadian side is much nicer and better viewing. The city of NF on the american side is a poopy hole.

Also, US Customs has a post at Toronto Airport so you can clear customs and immigration there rather than at your US destination.

twiley
We had a great view of the falls from the Embassy Suites on the Canadian side a few years ago. Did you have to climb up onto the AC unit to see out the window?
bigmike4969
I personally have never been there, but some of my friends and co-workers have. One place a couple of them recommend, if you get to Toronto, is the CN Tower. They have a glass observation floor at the top....1,122 feet up. Questions: Can I do taxis/etc. From the: Airport to Toronto Then from Toronto to the Falls and then Back to: the airport for less than $800???? Who can I call for help? I live in Rochester and will occasionally go the falls once or twice a year and spend a weekend gambling with the Mrs. I don't have any idea what a cab would cost but you are gonna be a good 1 hour away from the Falls if you are at the airport. I think you would be much better off renting a car in Toronto and driving to Niagara Falls and turning the car in for the two days you are there. Then rent one for your trip back to Toronto. Two days of a rental car will be far cheaper than paying for parking or paying for a taxi. Buffalo is much closer to the falls than Toronto but is usually much more expensive to fly into. We always stay at the Marriott on the Canadian side. Dinner there is crazy expensive ($200 for 2) so we generally would just grab buffet at one of the casinos which are very good. Buffet breakfast at the Marriott is absolutely fantastic. Agree with everyone else that you should definitely go to the Canadian side. There is absolutely nothing to do on the American side other than hiking. Devil's hole is a fun hike along the river. Maids of the mist is a must, you can take a jet boat tour up the Niagara river which is a lot of fun, wine tasting at Niagara on the lake, Cave of the wind tour is fun. In Toronto, you have to go to the zoo, CN tower, hockey hall of fame, catch a jays baseball game, they've got a lot of museums, great city. Be more than happy to discuss in further detail. PM me and I'll provide my contact info. Edited May 9, 2008 by Piles
max
The Mrs. and I went up there for a few days three years ago. We stayed at the Brock Plaza Hotel on the Canadian side. When we made our reservation we requested a standard room. When we went to the room, I thought it was too small and the view of the falls wasn't great in the standard room. We upgraded to a suite and we enjoyed it. We had a great view of the American and Horseshoe falls. It is also attached to Casino Niagra. There were nice parks to check out. The Maid of the Mist was great. We didnt do the walk behind the falls on that trip because it was a lot of walking for the prego wife at the time. I have done the walk behind the falls many years ago and it was great. One night we went to dinner at the Skylon Tower. It was a very nice meal and is very close to the new casino in Niagra Falls. All in all it was a great trip. I think a few days was plenty. If were were to stay for a longer period of time, we would have probably made some day trips in Canada. rocknrobn26
Thanks for the extra info, Max and Piles! Here's my reservations so far: Flying in on Air Canada.....They have to be better or at least no worse than AA, UAL, et. al.! 1) Flying into Pearson on Air Canada. Small jet, Mrs. rr got nervous but I like small planes. 2) Staying 3 nights HERE..... Looks like a nice place plus they waived ALL parking fees! Valet included! So the rental car is back into the options. 3) Driving to the falls and staying at Embassy Suites.... Hot tub view of the falls! The rental car is still up in the air, but how does that trip look? Any more comments appreciated.
cliaz
Sorry, no advice (as I haven't been) other than don't get too close to the edge. You should really go there. The history of the falls is amazing. Did you know that in 1899 there was an Irish immigrant named Lamas O'Quiery who got into an argument with his wife over post civil war pamphlets which were sent to their address by mistake. In the pamphlets, it promoted pro-south propaganda on how ex-slaves were desecrating the Christian faith by participating in homosexual relations. She shoved him into the river and he ended up going over the falls but lived. Didn't even break a single bone in his body. Its freaking amazing. If you go on the spirit of the mist boat at the bottom of the falls you can see the plaque they bolted to the large boulder at the bottom which has his name on it.
