darin3
Balls. It's not getting over 40 degrees here in Austin, TX today. Sometimes, I miss the "70 and partly cloudy" of SoCal. But then I think of the traffic and smog and all is well again. And yes, I know 40 is no big deal to you Eskimos but I'm just not used to this yet. So, what kind of temps are you looking at today and this weekend? It's supposed to dip down into the mid-20's tonight/tomorrow.

SheikYerbuti
Just did 20 miles on the bike. . .I'd say it was in the low 40's with stong gusts. It SUCKED. After reading Skippy's post last night, I vowed to go out for a ride no matter how cold it was.

I head down to San Antonio and New Braunfels every now and then for the weekend and always seem to hit Austin rush hour on Fridays. Last time I thought I would be smart and leave on Saturday morning.....the traffic was just as bad on 35 thru Austin at 11am on a Saturday as it was on Friday during rush hour (and this was on a Saturday when UT was playing on the road)! The traffic here can be bad but it's so much better than in SoCal. I left my house at 5pm yesterday and drove about 6-7 miles to meet up with some friends at a bar. There was no traffic. There was traffic on one of the east-west freeways but not on the north-south one I was on. IH-35 is a mess. The new loop around Austin will alleviate some of that traffic. It bottlenecks just before you hit downtown and then through the two-deck freeway through the city. Shoot me a PM next time you're in the area; would be happy to suggest restaurants/entertainment and/or with ya!

Ie Do you think it is going to take longer to take the loop around Austin then it would to just go straight thru dealing with the traffic? Oh and I've always assumed that the "UP" part of the two-deck freeway is the faster of the two. True?

Saturday here in Minneapolis is set to be a high temperature of -3 daytime and a low of -12 night time, with a wind chill of -17 layered on top for good measure. It will be bone-crackingly cold on Saturday but will warm up to about 6 degrees on Sunday. Edit: I have to go in to work Sunday morning at about 7:00 - it will be f'n horrible. Probably about -10 with wind chill. I on the other hand, will not be doing a pub crawl, as much as I'd like to be doing that. I'll instead be hibernating the next few days and burning a nice-ass fire all weekend long watching my 3 and 6 yr old sons while my wife if away in Orlando with a girlfriend (or so she says). I do get a make-up in Vegas in May with the fellas though so it's all good.
gsmayes
In metro Detroit it's supposed to be highs in the teens and lows in the single digits this weekend. I went to school for five and a half years in the U.P., it's supposed to be a high of 1F and low of -1F tomorrow (windchills in the -20 range) in Houghton, MI. Oh and I've always assumed that the "UP" part of the two-deck freeway is the faster of the two. True? Check this out... Yeah, they're toll roads. If I were driving from San Antonio to Dallas, I think I might do the bypass loop. As for the top deck being faster, it would make sense if it was. There are no on/off ramps on the top deck as opposed to 3-4 on the bottom deck. Problem is, each deck is only 2 lanes so if you get a moran in front of you, you could be up poop creek without a paddle. Toasty. Hopefully that nice weather lasts, as I'll be in FL in a couple weeks.
