Cunning Runt
Me thinks that if a Cat 3-4 hits Houston directly or within 30-40 miles in either direction, there will be no Monday nite football either. Cities do NOT recover from a hurricane in 2 days for the uninformed. They need to move the game elsewhere. Exactly what I said earlier. I think this is short-sighted on the NFL's behalf. I think that the relative minor hit New Orleans took on Gustav has the NFL thinking that everything will be good to go... when it may not be. Trots
From the Baltimore Sun: There is a possibility that the game could be changed again Sunday if Hurricane Ike causes damage to the city and Reliant Stadium, the Texans' 71,054-seat retractable-roof stadium. If the game can't be played in Houston, the NFL might consider relocating the game to an alternate site. Shifting the game to Atlanta, 793 miles east of Houston, was discussed by the league today. "I'm sure the league and the Texans will monitor the situation and see what the conditions are in Houston when the storm has passed through [saturday]," Cass said. Keeping the game in Houston goes against the league's recent trend of moving games affected by severe conditions.
Outshined
Moved to Monday night. Maybe the title can be changed again... CBS sportline has the story front page.
justin
Just got off the phone with DirecTV. If they do play the game, it will not be ran as a Sunday Ticket game. If you are not in the Houston or Baltimore market, you will not be able to see the game. Well that sucks.
Randall
The WC now says an upper category 2/low cat 3 probably with center just west of Houston.
justin
NFL.com indicates that the game will be televised on DTV channel 717 (that looks like Sunday ticket).
Big John
NFL.com indicates that the game will be televised on DTV channel 717 (that looks like Sunday ticket). That is Sunday Ticket. Last time, they used the reason for not showing it because it conflicted with high school football. So they must have changed their minds last night and now showing it since the "no compete" clause does not apply here.

budlitebrad
FYI, the NFL has stated that the game will not be available outside of the local markets (including DTV), due to ESPN's exclusive rights to Monday night games. Pope Flick
They won't be playing this game in Houston. I'm wishing the best for everyone, these things are no joke and I personally HATE the term "only cat 2" - because it implies it's not that dangerous. hooknladder
RAVENS-TEXANS GAME WILL AIR ON DIRECTV Posted by Mike Florio on September 12, 2008, 4:32 p.m. Well, we’re not quite sure why or how it happened, but the good folks at the NFL and ESPN have decided that the Monday night game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans will be available to DirecTV customers. “After taking a closer look at it, we have decided that our Sunday Ticket subscribers will receive Monday night’s telecast of the Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans game,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told us by e-mail a few moments ago. The game won’t be available via DirecTV in Baltimore or Houston, but it wouldn’t be available via DirecTV in those cities if they played the game on Sunday. Kudos to the league and ESPN for doing the right thing.
SLAYER
Stay tune further details. No way Houston will host a football game Mon. night. NFL probably has been working on a site just in case(I hope)

justin
I had seen a report or blog on NFL.com that the commish was considering Atlanta as a potential host site for this game. EDIT: The Houston Chronicle reports that the game will not be played in Houston, but no date or location has yet been announced. "The facility will not be usable," said Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park. "There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off," Guinn said. "There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage," he said. "As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL." The Texas and Ravens will have no comment until they hear from the league. Conference calls among three are scheduled for later today. Edited September 13, 2008 by justin
hooknladder
As Hurricane Ike continues to batter Texas, the Houston Chronicle is reporting that not only will Houston’s Reliant Stadium be in no condition to host an NFL game on Monday, but it might have sustained damage significant enough to call the Texans’ future games into question as well. “The facility will not be usable,” said Shey Guinn, the president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Stadium. “There’s some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off.” Obviously, the full extent of the damage can’t be determined in the middle of the hurricane, but there are suggestions that the stadium might have suffered the kind of significant damage that can’t be repaired in a week or two. The Texans-Ravens game that was originally scheduled for Sunday and then moved to Monday cannot be played at Reliant Stadium this weekend, the Chronicle is reporting. It is not clear whether the game will be played at another stadium this weekend or moved to a later date. The league, the team and stadium officials need to determine whether Reliant Stadium will be ready by October 5, when the Texans are scheduled to host the Colts. That game is the first of three straight home games for Houston. some more of the above article.............pull your starters if it's post-poned
cdrudge
Here's the full article The Colts/Texans game is probably easily resolved by switching cities...Indy in 2 weeks and then back to Houston whenever, presuming the repairs can be made. Hopefully things aren't too bad down there. I can't imagine what forces are at play with a large stadium, let alone one with a roof that is retractable. DMD
HOUSTON -- Damage caused by Hurricane Ike likely will lead to the postponement of Monday night's NFL game at Reliant Stadium between the visiting Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans. The storm tore chunks off the stadium's retractable roof and the damage can't be fixed in time to host the game, said Shea Guinn, president and general manager of Reliant Park. "There is no way this stadium will host a game on Monday night," Guinn said Saturday. "There are parts of the roof that are completely gone." An official announcement was expected later Saturday, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "It certainly appears that the stadium is not going to be able to be used on Monday night," Aiello said. ThatDude
Taken from sportsline The game between Baltimore and Houston scheduled for NFL week 2 could possibly be postponed due to Hurricane Ike. At this time it is not known when the game will be played. It is possible that this game will not be included in Fantasy Football week 2. This means you might want to consider getting players from this game out of your fantasy lineups. The NFL is expected to make an official announcement later on Saturday (9/13). We will update the site with more information as soon as it becomes available to us.
The Wolf
The Dolphins have been moved and the Saints were moved for one month...all due to weather-related issues. How hard is it to fly the two teams to another location and play the game on Monday night??? Play it in L.A. for crying out loud! No way does the league postpone one game, then futz around with the schedule, affecting other teams, to fit the game in? My bet is that they play, and play somewhere far away from Houston on Monday night.
Big John
The Dolphins have been moved and the Saints were moved for one month...all due to weather-related issues. The Dolphins game was moved to a Friday but still in Miami, the Saints home games were moved for the whole year, and a Chargers home game was moved to Arizona for one game in recent history. Randall
From Pro Football Talk RAVENS-TEXANS IN NEW ORLEANS? Posted by Michael David Smith on September 13, 2008, 2:40 p.m. EDT We’re hearing from league sources that there are discussions going on today about moving this weekend’s Ravens-Texans game to Monday night at the Superdome in New Orleans. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Houston but was rescheduled for Monday night because of Hurricane Ike. But after Ike damaged Reliant Stadium, the league is now scrambling to find a new venue for it. The Superdome, of course, is home to the Saints, who were forced to play their whole 2005 season away from home as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The Saints play at Washington tomorrow. The Superdome’s event calendar says the stadium is hosting a Tulane football game today and another Tulane game on Thursday, but nothing Sunday through Wednesday. The Houston Chronicle reports that if the damage to Reliant Stadium is so severe that the team can’t return later in the stadium, they could play their games at Rice Stadium on the campus of Rice University. Pope Flick
Um, look there's not going to be a football game in Houston over the next few days. Your conjecture REALLY sounds ridiculous in the face of the fact that 4 million people are without power: they're not going to divert power to a football stadiums while there are neighborhoods in need. Moving it to another city? Sure. But Rice or the Astrodome are sheer speculation. The city is trashed, and what your expecting within 72 hours borders on the Easter Bunny.
