Menudo
So, I'm at a bar at the Memphis airport, and football talk begins. As luck would have it, the guys on each side of me are from Pittsburgh, so, we start talking Steelers. During this talk, I got a call from home, and was trying to talk to my son. There was a guy two seats down from me who was just keeping to himself. So, the two guys from Pittsburgh get up and leave, and the guy two seats down, who is wearing a Tennessee Vols shirt stands up and says "I've got to catch a flight, but, how old is your son" I said "He's 2 and a half" He asks what his name is. I say Aidan, and he asks how to spell it, which I think is odd. He then pulls out a football card writes a message and signs it. He hands it to me and says "I used to play for the Steelers....give this to your son, it is probably worth a quarter, even with my signature." I look at the card and it is Craig Colquitt....... I said, ah, I know who you are and thank him. He also hands me a Chiefs schedule with his son on it and says that he is the punter for the Chiefs and that he has another one that is going to punt in the pros. He was then off to catch his flight. Now, I know he's just a punter, but, he was a punter during two of their Super Bowl wins. This one of those times, that I really wish I could have called my Dad. Anyway, I thought this was pretty cool. to his Wikipedia

gilthorp
I'll bet when he had his punts blocked, the two of you had a lot in common.
CaP'N GRuNGe
That's cool....but...the guy runs around with copies of his own football cards to hand out to people? Al Bundy would be proud.

Al Bundy would be proud, but Ed O'Neil HATES mingling with the public. I'd rather have a Kelly Bundy card myself.

Menudo
cool story ... it is a bit weird to be walking around with your own cards in your pocket. We only talked briefly, but, he mentioned that he is a salesman. He said he wasn't a very good one, but, did well based on being an ex-NFL player. He said that you wouldn't believe how many times that sales talks turn into football stories which leads to sales. Perhaps that is why he carries the cards around ? He also gave me a Chiefs schedule with his son's picture on it. What I thought was cool was that when the three of us Steeler fans were talking about the Steelers, he never said a word. I'm surprised he wasn't tempted to say "Hey, I actually played for the Steelers" I think the only reason he said anything to me was that he heard me talking to my son on the phone. Savage Beatings
I can't blame the guy for carrying around his player cards, trying to re-live the glory days just a little when you're now in your 50's and pretty much forgotten about by everyone. It's no small accomplishment to become a successful professional athlete. It can't be easy to go from the field to a sales job each day. Randall
Cool story. Punters are players too. The good ones can help a team immensely. Some kickers are actually good athletes. When I lived in Green Bay we saw players all the time. One of the benefits of a football team in a small city. That's cool....but...the guy runs around with copies of his own football cards to hand out to people? Al Bundy would be proud. They make high school football cards? Al probably made them himself. Is this your way of explaining away the infamous trade up for a punter move the Packers made a few years back?

TaffKiwi
Carrying cards around with you? If he was on his way to Pittsburgh I could understand it. He probably still gets recognised there! Even though he was a punter... Is it Dustin his son at the Chiefs?
