ABC throws wedding-video couple out of hotel room after they appear on NBC's 'Today'

Pioneer Press

With more than 7 million YouTube views and counting, St. Paul newlyweds Kevin Heinz and Jill Peterson have gotten plenty of attention for their funky wedding dance entrance in the last few days, but not all of it has been positive.

On Friday, the same day they appeared on both ABC's "Good Morning America" and NBC's "Today," they were kicked out of their New York hotel room and had their airline flight canceled.

According to the New York Post, ABC, which flew Heinz and Peterson to New York on Thursday and booked them in the Millennium Hotel, was none too happy the couple appeared on their fiercest competitor — "Today" — in a pretaped segment that aired before their live appearance on "GMA."

The newspaper's Page Six column said that when ABC execs found out the whole wedding party was going to re-create the dance on Saturday's installment of "Today," ABC decided to cancel the couple's hotel and flights.

"We've been kicked out of our room," Heinz told the New York Post on Friday. "New York is cutthroat. That's what we've learned."

NBC stepped in at that point and picked up the couple's travel costs.

"Today" publicist Megan Kopf told the Pioneer Press in an e-mail that the network was "more than happy to make up for our competitor's bad manners."

And while the couple and ABC did not return phone messages, Peterson's mother, Marge, said her daughter was done talking to the media and was instead focusing on going back to school.
