delfamdelfam
what happened?
flemingd
Right call. Â Horrible rule, but the call was correct as the rule is concerned.
gilthorp
Calvin was robbed, no doubt. That's a TD in any level of the game.
Outshined
The NFL blew that call...
MTSuper7
what happened? Â Calvin Johnson caught a TD, but due to a rules technicality, they ruled it incomplete. Basically, CJ let the ball go before the officials deemed the catching motion was complete. It was awful, and the Lions are the most cursed franchise in sports history. Ursa Majoris
Right call. Horrible rule, but the call was correct as the rule is concerned. Exactly. I posted about this last year. Total BS. It should be control of the ball and down, nothing else.
budlitebrad
That team is just cursed.
csrulz16
Refs have to make the rules so damn complicated. 2 feet in with possession = TD
Grits and Shins
That was Megatron's fault ... he was too busy celebrating and not being attentive enough to finishing the play.
gbpfan1231
Why can a RB reach over the goal and then have the ball swiped away before "finishing the process of the play" and have it be a TD?
delfamdelfam
Why can a RB reach over the goal and then have the ball swiped away before "finishing the process of the play" and have it be a TD? that's what I was thinking, or when a qb dives for a td
ABC123
Why can a RB reach over the goal and then have the ball swiped away before "finishing the process of the play" and have it be a TD? Â Great point!
ABearWithFurniture
Clearly had the ball, both feet down, and his knee hit the ground while he had possession...
Gopher
What I don't understand is, why was the ruling on the field considered to be an incomplete pass, when the official nearest the play CLEARLY signaled touchdown, even after Johnson dropped the ball (intentionally)? Makes zero sense to me... If anything, the ruling on the field should have been that it was a touchdown, and they should have reversed it (if they determined that he didn't finish the play). Â And, I agree, the rule itself is stupid... this year's version of the tuck rule, apparently.
General Itals
That was Megatron's fault ... he was too busy celebrating and not being attentive enough to finishing the play. Â BS. If that happens anywhere else in the field of play, it's a reception and down by contact. He made a great athletic play and the ball just came out when it contacted the ground after he was touched by the defender. With the way he caught it, I don't think he could have necessarily pulled it into his body.
giantsfan
That was one of the BIGGEST joke calls I have EVERY seen. There HAS to be some logic apllied in these situations. Â He caught it and was starting to celebrate. CLEARLY A TD. JOKE!!! Â Now with that said , DAMN CJ, stop with the dancing and just finish the catch 100%. Â So CJ needs to just play football, but that was SUCH a catch it is scary. Edited September 12, 2010 by giantsfan
csrulz16
If this happened along the sidelines not in the endzone, it would have been a catch. Don't know why in the endzone u have to stand up and hand the ref the ball without any bobbles.

I don't think that is true ... it is my understanding that a WR has to complete the play ... that means maintaining control of the ball all the way to the ground. General Itals
And, I agree, the rule itself is stupid... this year's version of the tuck rule, apparently. csrulz16
What defenders should do is just wait for the WR to catch it and then knock the ball away when the WR tries to stand up. That will stop the PROCESS of the catch.
csrulz16
This has been the rule for a number of years now. Why it hasn't been changed by the rules committee is beyond me. It takes an event like a team losing bc of the rule for it to be changed. NFL is too busy counting money.

Which is exactly what he did. It was the act of slamming the ball to the turf that forced it out.
