Gdawg
I'm in the lower 99% and I'm not marching on Wall Street, as I realize Washington is the problem, not the markets. That is why I want to remove as much power as possible from Washington and return it to the states, and where possible local governments. It would cost a whole lot more to buy all the local and state politicians and be a lot more burdensome to do so than it is to buy the jokers in Washington. Amen. Ursa Majoris
Additionally a lot of the collapse was caused by the government injecting itself in the free market via Fannie and Freddie. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it" - Josef Goebbels (probably a misquote from his Big Lie theory). So keep on keepin' on, Perch, though with a whopper this big, it's gonna be some time before it gets accepted.

Speaking as a long-time member of the mortgage industry, I concur with what Perch has written with regard to Fannie and Freddie, not to mention the CRA. Government distortion of the markets creates a boom/bust cycle; the Austrian economists have been proven correct time and time again. It is a shame that our government believes that Hayek's The Road To Serfdom is a "How To" book.

Would you do me a favor and post any example you have of a lender being forced by any government agency to lend money to someone who could not pay it back? Thanks. bushwacked
Does anyone really deny anymore that vs. Capitalism? While I've more than ridiculed the tea party, and made fun of Perch taking token pics of token black guys at his 1,000,0000 port- a- Pottie protest, I never once realistically thought the tea party was all about fascism vs capitalism, despite their misdirected energy. Despite the OWS's misdirected energy, I'm pretty convinced you legitimately think this movement is a genuine Socialist/Communist challenge against Capitalism. Am I wrong? McBoog
Younger People are Angry Feel Entitled to Anything They Want Fixed I've been seeing it for years. Gets worse and worse. Young people come into the workforce, know it all, won't listen to anyone and feel they should be the boss tomorrow 'cause nobody knows what the F they're doing. They end up getting hurt, or worse getting someone else hurt. They do stoooopid things without asking senior agents for advise, ignoring the US Attorney and end up losing cases for us. Too much hugs and Feeeeeeeeeelings in school instead of the yard stick and the three Rs. We have bread a generation of soft, whiny ass biotches, starting around the time that the originator of this thread was born.

The soft squishy types tend to migrate to government jobs.
Ditkaless Wonders
I heard that Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie showed up at OWS. I'm surprised Pete is still alive. I doubt most of that generation out there knows Arlo. Still, perhaps their music educated the crowd. I always liked Pete and Arlo. One night, 30 years ago now, I spent some time with Arlo in my home after a concert he performed in Madison. One of the girls in the house worked as a hostess at the venue he played, the Churchkey, and she invited Arlo back to our house. Nice fella. They're the kids of the CEOs and politicians who haven't even reached adulthood yet. They don't understand their personal responsibilities towards their positions of power and money. If the leaders we have now are acting like children, how do you expect the younger generation to be who grew up watching these children direct our country? Pope Flick
I like all of this - OWS and the TP. The more involvement in our system the better, no matter your beliefs. They're pretty similar movements in a lot of ways though - govt is disconnected from the reality of everyday Americans - but I would say the TP is probably 3 or 4 x larger than this mess. The social media aspect of this is what makes it worth watching, especially given what's happened in the middle east this year.

Perhaps you should name - as you have not as to now - what supposed Nobel winning economist sponsored you. Perhaps that information would add credibilty to responses to whatever you write. I, perhaps for one, consider you without credibility, as I think you are a liberal shill who cannot add or multiply. You couldn't even tell the difference in a '4' and a '9' in a long gunned thread on Obama's passport. So you wouldn't know multiplication, much less addition, if it walked up and smacked you in the face.

How many of them were arrested? How many businesses were negatively affected? How much trash was there to pick up? Remember how hard the media and others were looking for racist or vulgar signs, and how hard they were to find? How are the OWS protesters being portrayed by the media? How many arrests are we up to now? How many businesses are being negatively affected? What is the sanitation situation? What about the signs at these rallies?
