stokers
There's been lots of talk about the biggest bust this year. On the flip side, who has been your sleeper pick this year? Mine would have to be Javon Walker.
coachfox
Yeah, Walker and Antonio Gates have been carrying my team. I need Walker to come up big tonight.

Phat Rugby
Dante has to be the biggest. Everyone knew he could perform, but to post the points he has, no one saw that coming. Also Breese. He went from lame duck QB paving the way for a rookie, to MVP candidate. For RBs - Droughns. WRs - Clayton. TEs - Whitten/Crumpler. Def - who cares! popmagnet
Brees has been a nice surprise picking him up FA. Droughns, and M. Moore have kept me alive. But my biggest surprise was starting Rattay in week 5 for a one week bye filler and getting 417 yds and 2 tds! Overall, Droughns is my guy. pzarvell
I've got Walker but he didn't surprise me as much as CBrown did when he was healthy.
sixxgunn
Gates(drafted)Brees and McAllister(free-agent finds)have all been huge for me.
kwolf68
I landed no surprises. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. My good players are Dom Davis, Alexander, Owens, Moulds, etc...all proven commodities. The closest thing I have to a surprise was Keary Colbert, but I had to deal him to get a tight-end so he isn't with me anymore. I guess I wasn't prepared this year, because my sleepers like Bryant Johnson, Eric Parker (doing better of late), Daniel Graham (I was loving him after week 2, but he's since been cut), and Doug Gabriel haven't done the job for me. darin3
Thoughts whilest reading this post: 1. Walker really can't be defined as a sleeper. He's quite unique; he was dubbed as a preseason favorite to be a stud WR. Then he started slowly and was nearly dubbed a bust. Finally, he's broken out and has claimed stud status. Hardly a sleeper, if you ask me. 2. Gates can definitely be tabbed a sleeper. In TE leagues, he was mentioned as a solid late-round pickup, as the Bolts were supposed to SUCK and the TE is typically the stop-gap on a crappy team. No one could predict he'd be the best receiver on a very good team. 3. Daunte's not a sleeper, but yeah, his big numbers have been a mild surprise ONLY because Moss has been out or limited for many weeks. 4. Brees is definitely a solid surprise QB. Not really a sleeper, though. I seriously doubt anyone drafted him (and held on) hoping that he'd break through to stud-ness. 5. Droughns... again, a nice surprise, but can't be classified as a sleeper. A sleeper, by definition, is someone that's DRAFTED, that has an outside chance to make some noise, given an injury, or given the player is put out there to perform. No one knew Droughns would do this. If anyone can honestly say they DRAFTED the guy, well, I would be VERY surprised. Once Griffin and Bell didn't pan out, then AND ONLY THEN was Droughns put out there to perform. And perform he did. I don't deny that! 6. Clayton... yeah, he's a sleeper that's come alive. He was drafted in some leagues, picked up early in others. On and off the waiver wire in most leagues. He hasn't really hit the rookie "wall", and is a consistent performer that has serious upside for the big play. 7. Witten/Crumpler are like Gates; they were penned as solid TEs (especially Crumpler) and have come alive to be top TEs (over Gonzo and Shockey and even McMichael, who were rated higher). 8. Brown could be tabbed as a mild sleeper that's gone from sleeper to asleep. The knock on him was that his running style was very "upright", thereby leaving him susceptible to injury. Of course, his injury really has nothing to do with his running style, but it merits mentioning. Some guys that haven't been mentioned that are either "sleepers" that came alive... or "surprises" that popped out of nowhere include: Burleson, Bettis, Wayne, Delhomme, McGahee, Stokley, Lelie and old man Emmitt Smith. Retrograde assault
I read a little blurb about Gates way before the season started and the guy said to get Gates because he was going to be a big sleeper pick this season. I remembered it and drafted him several times and it has paid off great!
Flux Capacitor
Every fantasy web site had Gates as a sleeper this season but I never thought he'd be this dominant. He's helped carry my team to a 4-1 record while Randy Moss was injured. Picked him in the 8th round, McGahee late in the 7th. Picked up Julius Jones off the waiver wire a few weeks back and used him this week vs. the Bears (nice). Like that week 14 matchup vs. the Saints. On the flip side, Stephen Davis, Matt Hasslebeck and Vanderjagt were not good picks. I can't believe how bad Hasslebeck has been this season. A real disappointment for me. Hello Brian Griese. My vote is for Gates, he has been my MVP by far and has helped my team to the playoffs. Tony G is still great and Crumpler is very good, but Gates is the man this season. Donutrun Jellies
For the Jellies, there have been two particularly pleasant surprises ... An unexpected positive surprise has been Pittman. He's finding the endzone and getting yards either running or receiving each game. Nice production for a waiver wire find in a 14 team league. And yes, even I have been surprised by Gates. I'd drafted him after having him last year figuring he'd be solid for 40-60 yards a game and maybe 4 tds ... He's blown up way past that! cclevine1025
And yes, even I have been surprised by Gates. I'd drafted him after having him last year figuring he'd be solid for 40-60 yards a game and maybe 4 tds ... He's blown up way past that! I drafted Gates in both leagues that I am in and he has obviously paid off big time. I was only looking for 50-60 yards a game with the occassional TD. I'm glad I took him. An unexpected positive surprise has been Pittman. Pittman was a guy I picked up the week after his return and he has been a starter on my team since then. He has helped me into a tie for best record at 9-3 so far and I'm hoping to get a first round bye when the playoffs start.

Wayne and Stokely - well, Harrison can't catch them all. Burleson - always had great hands and runs great routes for a young'un but certainly stepped it up with Moss out and Robinson sucking. Bettis - has a history of being a quality RB but certainly got the limelight when Duce went down. McGahee - surprised me. I didn't think he'd be this good this soon after blowing out his knee. That was brutal to watch. Lelie - Sort of like Walker in that "he's a stud in waiting"... Emmitt - Viagra for football players? Is that a banned substance? wildbluefan
Mc Gahee for me, got him off waiver wire around week 5, also got Pittman off waivers around same time. Now I am starting BOTH over Deuce, Chris Brown and Dunn !!!
satelliteoflovegm
Javon Walker was a mild surprise from my draft class. Pittman off the waiver wire has been huge. I have struggled for 2 years with QB's so Leftwich of the WW was a nice surprise also. Especially that month or so with 300 yards every game. Red Storm
Out of all of these posts, no where do I see Tiki Barber mentioned. I play in a high performance 12 team league, and I am not sure about everyone elses leagues, but he leads in total fantasy points by a slight margin in mine. We conducted an auction draft ($200 fantasy dollars) with 12 owners and these are th eprices that I paid for my RBs: Tomlinson: $82 Barlow: $51 Martin: $31 Barber:$12 Droughns: $1 - through free agency I agree that the players mentioned by all of you are having great years, but Barber has surprised me by putting up the numbers he has and not fumbling.
