DMD
man, between him and Tebow FSU is no longer willing to let Miami corner the market on class, intellect and grace.
cre8tiff
I'm all for that, but seriously, couldn't the kid have made a few million, THEN retired and just PAID for Oxford? Seriously, that is a prime bird in the hand moment there.
muck
A Rhodes Scholarship is more exclusive company than NFL player. He made the right call. Besides, there is a good shot that he'll keep in shape and then sign on with some team after his studies are done...or, at least I'd think that that is what he'd do... Strongly disagree, I would rather have a couple mill in my pocket and be set for life and have an option later.
budlitebrad
Knowing how smart and how hard this kid works, he will have no problem making serious scratch... with or without the NFL.
Riffraff
He was on "The best damn sports show period" and was very impressive. All the commentators were just in awe of him, just started calling him "Doctor" on the show. Very special person and way above "just playing football." A couple mill will hardly leave a 20 something year old set for life. As a Rhodes Scholar, he'll be able to write his own ticket. Money wll be the least of his worries. From what I hear around here and read that is the plan. He is making the right choice in my opinion. I really don't think he will make a very good pro. He is a liability in coverage. Hope I'm wrong. You're right,I was looking at his graduate degree which still isn't the same.I guess when he stated he wanted to be a neurosurgeon I connected dots that weren't there. It really doesn't matter.Like other have stated,as a Rhodes Scholar that studied at Oxford,he will be able to write his own ticket, and without getting beat up in the NFL. I wonder how many years of doctoring it will take him to make up the guaranteed lost wages? Edited January 18, 2009 by polksalet

Randall
I think u are on crack. I wonder how many years of doctoring it will take him to make up the guaranteed lost wages? It's a one year residence. If he gets drafted next year and succeeds I don't it costs him much. NFL players make more money than they will need in their lives if they invest it wisely. Besides he may be planning on his future after a short NFL stint. Doctors make a bit of coin themselves.
Riffraff
Doctors make a bit of coin themselves. Six figure incomes for 40-50 years. Average NFL players, for 4-8 years. And even better... he can do both.
Sox
I think u are on crack. I wonder how many years of doctoring it will take him to make up the guaranteed lost wages? What guaranteed wages?Where is he projected to be drafted? The NFL is there, and will always be there. He will never get a shot at another Rhodes scholarship and a chance to study at Oxford. If he were to become a neurosurgeon(and as bright as he is,I don't see him failing) he'd be making more money than you might think...and for a long time. jackshi17
He should go to Oxford and bypass the NFL. He could get an education that might save a life or cure cancer. Money is not a problem for a Rhodes Scholar.

Exactly. He's only going for a year. Why can't he play football for 8-10 years and then go into medicine or whatever he wants? It's not an either/or proposition. Next year if he wants to play I expect to see him at the Combine. "The New York Times said Rolle has been told he was projected to be one of the top 49 picks in the NFL draft, with the potential to go higher with a strong performance at the league’s scouting combine. The top-picked safety in 2008, Kenny Phillips of the New York Giants, made $3.8 million this season, including bonuses. He was selected 31st overall. Rolle, who graduated from the Hun School of Princeton, New Jersey, has said he plans on attending medical school after a career in the NFL. Former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley and ex-Maryland Congressman Tom McMillen, both basketball players, were Rhodes Scholars, as was former NFL quarterback Pat Haden.
