Very sad and somewhat scary - I just remember after Columbine there seemed to be a spate of these for a few years at the high school level. The campus of Virginia Tech is currently the scene of at least two separate shootings. According to university officials, it would appear that around 7:15 authorities got a 911 call of shot fired and multiple injuries at West Ambler Johnston hall early Monday morning. University police as well as the FBI are reportedly on the scene and investigating. The hall houses almost 900 students, mostly freshman. Amie Steele, editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper, told the AP that one of her reporters at the dormitory reported "mass chaos." The reporter indicated that there were "lots of student running around, going crazy, and the police officers were trying to settle everyone down and keep everything under control," according to Steele. The shooter, who was said to be heavily armed, was said to go from room to room just shooting. There was a report of a second shooting at about 10 a.m. at Norris Hall. Officials said there were multiple victims in that shooting incident by a man who was said to be of asian decent. According to reports, at least 22 people have been killed (many of them students) and it would appear there are at least 21 injured. (we must caution that this has not been verified by police) According to eyewitness accounts, the shooter was looking for his girlfriend and was lining up people to shoot execution style. Police say the shooter was shot and killed and now believe he was the only gunman although police are reluctant to connect the shootings. However, another individual was seen being arrested. Even though the campus has now been secured, All classes have been canceled for today and tomorrow and all access to the campus has been blocked off. The shootings came just three days after a bomb threat Friday forced the cancellation of classes in three buildings, WDBJ in Roanoke reported. Also, the 100,000-square-foot Torgersen Hall was evacuated April 2 after police received a bomb threat in writing, The Roanoke Times reported. Back in August of 2006, Virginia Tech shut down its campus and ordered everyone to remain inside as authorities searched for an escaped inmate suspected of killing a hospital guard and a sheriff's deputy.
