keggerz
This morning I had thought about posting this and never got around to it but then after reading sarges "philly sucks" thread I figured why not start this up. So who are your Favorite Pro Football teams(or one you root for) & other Professional Sporting teams? Football: Eagles, born and raised in south jersey says it all other teams that I like and root for: Seattle Seahawks, reason why is that when I was younger my best friend was left handed and he always played QB when we played sandlot football and I was always a WR so the Zorn to Largent connection made being a seattle fan easy(now since they moved into the NFC it is a bit tricky but they would never trump my eagles allegiance) Colt, formerly of Baltimore when i was a kid...they had a RB by the name of Lydell Mitchell who played at Penn State so since I liked Philly and Penn State of course I liked the Colts because of Mitchell and I also remember liking Bert Jones too Baseball: Phillies, I am a homer and thats all there is to it....I also was at game 6 in 1980 section 301 when the won the world series, a great memory for an 8th grader for sure....i also tried out for the phillies at an open camp back during my playing days(outfield, mainly CF and some RF) Hockey: Flyers all the way...they may suck now and came up short when they shouldnt have but they have been a great franchise and that shouldnt be diminished by their lack of championships Basketball: 76ers, god i long for the days of Dr J, Dawkins, McGinnis, Bobby Jones, Mo Checks et al...the Sixers sure do suck now but I could care less since they are in a rebuild mode after dealing iverson
Hugh 0ne
Football: Vikings because I like purple. Hockey: Penguins because I like Menyoudo. Baseball: Not a real sport. Basketball: Not a real sport.
Jolly Rodgers
Football: Bucs because born and raised in Tampa Hockey: Lightning Baseball: D-Rays (I guess) and Red Sox because I went to college in New England and I was converted. Basketball: Magic - Closest bball to Tampa
darin3
Football See avatar. Bears fan since I can remember, but really got fueled up for it all in '85. Parents are born/raised Chicagoans and I just grew up rooting for Chicago sports teams. Love Walter Payton, McMahon, that stifling D... and now of course the Urlacher/Jones/etc. era is sweet. Growing up in Southern California, though, really distorted one's views of the NFL and being a NFL fan. I hate the Raiders, (most of) their (idiot) fans. The L.A. Rams were a joke... although Chrissy Everett was good for the community (especially in fostering local football talent to be Ram fans). I did, over the years, garner some respect and love for the Bolts. Hard not to root for guys like Tomlinson, Seau, etc. Baseball Same story with the Lovable Losers. Who that has Chicago ties DOESN'T like the Cubbies? (OK maybe there are some of those out-of-Chicago Sux fans... but who knows what they're thinking?). Grew up watching Harry Carey on those nice summer days. Been to plenty of Cub games in my day. And similarly with my football story, always rooted for my hometown Angels. Never the Dodgers. Boo. My favorite baseball player growing up was Brian Downing (with his odd stance). 2002 was awesome! Living up in the Bay Area, watching the Series... Basketball Been a Bulls fan, of course, since I started dribbling a basketball some 30 years ago. Of course, it gained full steam when Jordan and Co. were bringing home trophies left and right. I dig these "new" Bulls. Not sure about Skiles, but definitely love Deng, Hinrich and guys like Tyrus Thomas are certainly the future. And, like football/baseball, I of course loved watching my local NBA teams. Notably, the "Showtime" Lakers. Nothing like watching Magic, Worthy and The Captain runnin' up and down the floor against the Celts, Peestons, etc. I DO NOT root for the Lakers anymore. Don't like Kobe. Don't really like Phil that much (even when he was the Bulls' coach). And I can't STAND most Laker fans. They arrive at Staples halfway through the first quarter, spend the entire first half on their cell phones and/or eating sushi, make little to no noise, and then leave at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Lame. Hockey Never got into hockey. Although watching the Ducks a few years ago when they were hot was pretty fun. College Sports Not sure how it really happened, but I became a UT football/basketball fan several years ago. I recall liking Ricky Williams' game when he was a Longhorn. Plus, I nearly came to Austin many years ago for grad school. Never happened, but I live in Austin now, so it works out well. Menudo
Football: Steelers because they are awesome. Hockey: Penguins because they are awesome. Baseball: Pirates because they have an awesome stadium. Basketball: Utah Jazz, because Pittsburgh doesn't have a team and I liked Stockton & Malone. AtomicCEO
Denver Broncos - I've been living out here in CO since 1999 and attending as many games as I can. What's not to like about this franchise? Bob Kraft suckerpunched Hartford when I lived there, and I won't root for the Patriots. Boston Red Sox - I'm from CT, and my Grandfather and father are Sox fans. Hartford Whalers - They still exist!!! Lalalalalalalalala... I can't hear you!!!!! Pro Basketball is gay Oh yeah... and UConn college hoops. Edited January 25, 2007 by AtomicCEO

devilwoman
Football Seahawks, because I am from Washington and they bonded a Mom and daughters relationship of watching them every time they were on TV. God rest her beautiful football soul...love ya Mom!! College Football The Ducks...I think it's the ugly green uniforms...but I love my Ducks...and the Cougs too Edit to include College Football Hockey does it matter? Basketball Portland fan that says it all I think a friend got me hooked on them...now they have sucked for several years. Needless to say I don't watch basketball much unless they are playing or its the playoffs. Baseball cant stand to watch it cuz it's too long of a season. It pushes out all the important football offseason information...too slow and boring for me. But I love playing it...weird I know. Soccer Only womens soccer...Mia Hamm and that bunch...what a team they were!! Thats it! Edited January 25, 2007 by devilwoman
Gdawg
Football: the Ravens, hometown team Until we got the Ravens I rooted for the Bengals, mostly because I was a Boomer Esiason fan; started to follow the Bengals once he left UM and went pro. Baseball: The Orioles, though I haven't the foggiest reason why I still follow them Pro Basketball: No interest. Hockey: No interest College: Maryland and Notre Dame (Irish Catholic family, I grew up on them). Love college football and basketball in general and will pretty much watch any game that's on tv. Good stuff
Grits and Shins
Football: Dallas Cowboys Hockey: Dallas Stars Baseball: Texas Rangers Basketball: Dallas Mavericks. Another inhabitant of the metroplex. Been a Cowboy fan since the late 80s I root for the Stars but don't follow hockey that much until the playoffs and only then IF the Stars are contending. It hurts to be a Ranger fan, but there it is. Been a fan of the Rangers since Nolan Ryan came to the team. I follow the regular season less than I used to and since the Rangers haven't been in the post season I sure don't get to watch them there (at least not since Johnny Oates led the team to several post seasons). I do follow the baseball post season even if the Rangers aren't there. I root for the Mavericks but don't follow the NBA that much until the playoffs and only then IF the Mavericks are contending. NCAA .. GIG 'EM AGGIES! Nothing else. [EDIT] There is a fine 12U boys baseball team that I follow pretty damn closely too. I track the local HS football team as well (not enough to go to any games, including any of the 5 state championships they have in the last 6 years). Def.
Football: Dolphins. Despite living in Chitown all my life, I Grew up with Marino & Shula. Baseball: White Sox, cause my first game Fisk hit a GS in the bottom of the 9th when we were down by 3. Some of us don't bleed crapp...err...cubby blue. Basketball: Bulls. Grew up with Jordan, Pippen, and Paxson. Plus I like the D first Team ball atmosphere they are trying to create. Hockey: They still play this in North America? Big John
Mostly where I grew up: Football: Packers and Badgers Baseball: Brewers Basketball: Badgers. (Used to be also the Bucks, but the NBA really turned me off.) Hockey: Badgers. For the NHL, no Wisconsin team, so I followed the Penguins from the days of Mario LeMeiux. Shorttynaz
Baseball: Pirates because they have an awesome stadium. Can definitely agree with that. I was out there last summer and was able to see a game. What an awesome ballpark!! (And may I add, how about those bartenders at Hightops!?!?!). We sat maybe 15 rows up directly behind home plate, and I was more amazed by the view than I was with the product that was put out onto the field. And can I ask (for any of you Pittsburgh homers out there) WHAT IS that big TV screen that pops up on the top of one of the buildings behind right-center field? I thought they were going to show something, but it was just a bunch of colors.. However with the Pirates, It's just too bad that they will not pony up the $$ to get some good quality talent in there and keep them. Got a lot of loyal fans who are just waiting to cheer for a winner before football season starts. Shorttynaz
Baseball: Pirates because they have an awesome stadium. And not too sure if anyone has ever been to Chase field (formerly Bank One Ballpark) in downtown Phoenix. It's a pretty nice place as well.. However some people say it's too commercialized. I mean there's a f'ng swinning pool in right-center field, and there's a TGI Fridays restaurant that hangs out over left field! However the view is nothing compared to the one in the 'Burgh
rbmcdonald
The Houston Oilers. Born and Raised in Houston (Austin now). I loved the Oilers. There is something about the optimisms and enthusiasm that only a child that was too young to remember the early success of the AFL, could have had in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s rooting for the Oilers. Every year was a new year (and more often than not, a new coach). Then came Earl, wow it was something to see what that did for the town and the franchise. He was so great to watch. Then after Earl and a brief lull, there was the Love ‘Ya Blue days, but just could not get over the last hill. Then Fatso leaves and I did not watch a complete Pro Football game for 5 years. I pull for the Texans, but it is not the same for me. Maybe it will be someday, who k
Shorttynaz
I think it's a billboard... It's not. This year if you go (if you live there) look at it after the sunsets. You'll see it and it will drive you nuts. The guy I went there with last year lives there and has been to numerous games, and he never noticed it until I pointed it out and asked him what it is. He's still baffled. He cant find anyone there that knows either. It's almost like a huge projector screen that pops up when the sun goes down. I thought they were going to show replays or the TV feed on it. It was just a bunch of colors. Wierd!!
chiefjay
Football: Lions I'll stick with em though. Hockey: Red Wings Been going to Wings games since they were the Dead things, my dad I used to sneak in the side door at the JLA, give the usher a $5 and stand all game. Baseball: Tigers, Roarrrrr, went to game 4 in 1984, two Tram homers and it was on to game 5 which was on my B-Day, good times. Basketball: Peestons, nothing better in the past then watching them whip Darin's Lakers back in 04. College: Michigan, for better and worse. Hate MSU. I'm pretty sure there's a pepsi bottle on a building looking out past right field and I thought there was a sign on a building looking out over center field....Maybe I have'nt seen what your talking about.
