Swiss Cheezhead
I didn't catch the details, other than the mention that he's not expected to be available for Week 1. I personally like Houston a lot (and I think Blaylock is a scrub who looked good for a few seconds behind the best O-line in football), but I still want to get some Jets homers to chime in here. Rovers? What's goin' on with CMart and are you still in the Houston camp?

And here's another, from a guy who went to Jets TC. I think Martin is done. Here's the bombshell: One of the guys I went to practice with says his source tells him Martin (on the PUP) will retire this year! I don't have any solid reason to doubt him. tonorator
isn't this when someone comes on and posts, "in other news, the sky is blue ..." oh wait, i just did. edited to add: which is not to disrespect martin, who has had a strong NFL and Fantasy Football career ... Rovers
It does sound like Martin may be done.... Blaylock is getting the most reps with the 1st team offense, but he leaves me very unipressed. He is VERY dangerous out of the backfield, and isn't bad at pass blocking and picking up the blitz, bur he's horrible between the tackles. In a ogal line drill last week, he did this stupid spin move and led into the line with his back. He likes to juke after the handoff..... and IMO loses his best weapon dancing around like that... his speed. The smaller Washington has actually looked better between the tackles, but my personal fave is Houston. Swiss, you may recall I tried to pry Houston from your grimy little hands in DWII last year. One last time.... my take on Houston: After his junior year, he was a projected late first, early second round pick, but had a bad senior year. At the combine, it was discovered he had a thyroid condition that was previously undiagnosed. He slipped to the 6th round, but thyroid problems are treatable, although it takes some time to get the med cocktail just right. This can take 3 to 6 months. Only then could he have the stamina and stregnth to get into football shape. Last year in TC, he looked very slow and lethargic, over wieght too. This year, he can into camp looking great, at 218. I can gauge a player's speed at camp pretty well. He is faster... a lot faster. In fact, very close to Blaylock's straight line speed. Not as elusive, but very quick to the hole. He also has good hands. He almost never goes down at first contact, unlike Blaylock. He is really the only power runner on the Jets roster. He's fast enough to get outside. First, Blaylock has to prove he can carry the load, but coming off two years in a row with what were virtually season ending injuries, I really have doubts about his durabilty. Washington is a near clone of Blaylock, but is slightly faster. I think that by week 4, Houston will be the feature back. 25 touches. He'll get the goal line carries too. Close to a RBBC, but not quite by week 4. He needs to get better at picking up pass rushers but already is a reliable outlet reciever. Whether or not he can be the RB of the future is up in the air, but frankly, I refuse to rule that out.
House of Pain
I love CuMar, but it is time to turn the page. He lit the spark that put life back into die hard Jet fans hearts and I thank him for that. Father time is catching up, but I hate to see him go out like this if in fact this how it goes down. I'm not sold on any heir apparent. TC wonder reports are nice, but show me what you got against a D that wants to hurt you.
spain
I saw every game that Houston played in college. He was seemingly always on the verge of breaking a long run, but just quite got it done. Dont get me wrong, he was a very productive back for the Vols, but it just seemed like he never quite fulfilled the potential that I saw in him. I am not surprised to learn of the thyroid problem. If he gets that corrected, he will be the starter in NY. He is a better runner than Blaylock. Houston is a tough runner who can break tackles and has good speed. He has a nice explosive burst, but not much wiggle. I could see him being the #1 rb with Blaylock being the 3rd down back. We might be looking at another dreaded rbbc. Yeah, a thyroid problem could easily make the difference in the burst necessary to accelerate into the open field. Even at this point, Houston looks like a great 2005 draft pick by the Jets...and by the Winnebago Derby Domes in the FOURTH round of last year's draft. If I recall, Houston was a very good prep player, as well; he's certainly got talent. To be honest, I'd be more worried about Leon Washington stealing 3rd-down touches than Blaylock, mostly because the former was drafted by the current staff and the latter wasn't. The only reason I think Houston won't fall victim to that is because I think he's the only one who can effectively handle the ball between 20 and 30 times a game (on the few occasions when the Jets have a lead to protect ). Either way, anyone who has Houston on their keeper/dynasty roster has a bargain on their hands, simply because he wasn't drafted high. He'll also be a good value pick in redraft leagues, simply because nobody knows anything about him.

Rovers
Read a report Martin was seen at TC.... limping. Went to the morning practice... Pennington will be the starter, IF or maybe, untill he gets hurt. Blaylock got about 50% of the first team snaps, the rest were split between Houston and Washigton.... this has yet to play out, but it's starting to look more and more like RBBC. Brad Smith made another great grab.... he could be a VERY good WR down the road.

Kansas State 2000
If he's done we will no longer have a back in the top 10 all time in rushing playing. We went from four to none in one year. 1. Emmitt Smith 18,355 2. Walter Payton 16,726 3. Barry Sanders 15,269 4. Curtis Martin 14,101 5. Jerome Bettis 13,662 6. Eric Dickerson 13,259 7. Tony Dorsett 12,739 8. Jim Brown 12,312 9. Marshall Faulk 12,279 10. Marcus Allen 12,
