St Louis area Huddlers

Me & the wife got invited to a couples show....er....wedding party for a good friend of ours in St Louis this Summer. Since we won't be able to attend the wedding in Belize we would really like to go, but we also were planning on a vacation for the kids as well. The problem is I don't have enough time off of work to do both this Summer so what I was wondering is if there are any kid-friendly(ages 2 & 7) things to do there or somewhere near there. I know there is the St. Louis Zoo, but can't really find much other than that.

I'm trying to convince the wife to just let me & her fly up there for a weekend getaway, but she's not fond of the idea. :D

:D Great find. Maybe we can settle this match once & for all...meeting Twoobs would be an added bonus.

Buh-ring it. :D

Seriously though, look me up when you're in town. Twoobs will have her hands full with the newborn but I should be able to get away.

What weekend?

I've been traveling to St. Louis on business recently. STAY OUT of the downtown area. It makes Detroit look friendly...

The 'burbs are nice, though.

That couldn't be further from the truth. :D

I'm assuming you were north of Washington Ave. because that area isn't the best. Downtown St. Louis is really safe.

That's where this white boy went to school, lol.

Well...I've pretty much caught up with you on the poundage since then. :D

Will definitely give you a shout if we do make it up there. I'm not sure of the weekend though, I need to look at the invitation again.

I should have asked here first. I took my wife the first trip. Stayed out by the airport, but ventured into downtown to find a mall under constructon and boarded up buildings. Next time (probably in June) you can direct me toward the St. Louis I expected.

NCAA Final Four was in town when I was.

Yeah, the airport hotels are a little ratty and you probably came across the lovely blunder of a mall that was a disaster to begin with.

I'm currently working on the new ballpark village campaign next to the new stadium and once it's complete it should be pretty amazing. The firm the built "4th Street" in Louisville is heading the projest.

Mostly because the city is deserted after 6:00PM...which is good if you plan on going to any of the clubs/nightlife that happens to be there (casino/union station/etc.). Very little crime in the CBD.

For kids, a great city. Plenty of fun things to do, most of which mentioned above. There is a Nascar experience at the outlet mall near Earth City that your kids would enjoy (wiegie?). Magic House is great, Six Flags a winner...tour of the brewery is cool, as well as taking in a Cardinals game.

And Grant's Farm is very cool: http://www.grantsfarm.com/

Yeah, the city will be pumping only if there's a ballgame, otherwise you'll have the whole city to yourself.

If the 7 year-old is in to Indian stuff, then you might want to consider making the 10 minute drive over to Cahokia Mounds: http://www.cahokiamounds.com/cahokia.html

(The area around the mounds isn't the best in the world, so make sure you take the most direct route to get there.)

(The zoo, city museum, magic house, science museum, and grant's farm are also excellent ideas.)

Alrighty here ya go!

Six Flags is roughly 45 minutes from downtown.

The Magic House

The Zoo

Grants Farm

St. Louis City Museum (a favorite place of mine, we take our students there for field trips every year and it is hands down their favorite place)

Science Center

Cahokia Indian Mounds (did an archeaology field study there, very very cool place but as mentioned before not in the best area)

THE BOWLING HALL OF FAME!

I know these were all suggestions mentioned earlier but, I figured I would add my .02 I hope you enjoy St. Louis.
