H8tank
What exactly does it say again? NEW YORK (AP) _ A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday on hate-crime charges after he threw a Quran in a toilet at Pace University on two separate occasions, police said. Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both hate crimes, police said. It was unclear if he was a student at the school. A message left at the Shmulevich home was not immediately returned. The Islamic holy book was found in a toilet at Pace's lower Manhattan campus by a teacher on Oct. 13. A student discovered another book in a toilet on Nov. 21, police said. Muslim activists had called on Pace University to crack down on hate crimes after the incidents. As a result, the university said it would offer sensitivity training to its students. The school was accused by Muslim students of not taking the incident seriously enough at first. Pace classified the first desecration of the holy book as an act of vandalism, but university officials later reversed themselves and referred the incident to the New York Police Department's hate crimes unit. http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/new...0,6882662.story Book in toilet, two felonies? spain
What would the reaction been if a bible was found in the toilet? I bet they would have called it modern art and given the kid a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Chavez
Everyone with a holy book should learn that it's what's IN the book, not the book itself, that is important.
AtomicCEO
Wait a second, H8! Are you saying that Congress made a law that made throwing a book in a toilet illegal??? Oh wait no. They didn't. There was just a guy charged and not convicted with something that that this article has few details on (they don't even know if he's a student). So you may ask... how does this related to the first amendment? I have no idea. Congress didn't pass a law limiting free speech, and nobody was convicted of doing something related to free speech. None of that really matters. We have us another bonafide victim of the evil United States and we need to make a Michael Moore type movie showing how we are going down the slippery slope to fascism! Are you saying that Congress made a law that made throwing a book in a toilet illegal??? umm, yeah. apparently the state legislature did just that, since the dude was arrested on "hate-crime" charges. the first amendment DOES apply to state legislatures too, in case you missed that day in civics class.
