Jumpin Johnies
I have enjoyed the evolution of this thread completely but I believe when JJ created it several days ago it had a purpose only known to JJ. As time has passed we are coming to a better understanding of what he meant. Sorta. JJ, I am blessed to see that you have accepted Christ as Lord of your life. Thank God for His mercy and grace and for His help in all that you do. Congrats , Brother. I no longer drink so a is more appropriate but I thank you regardless. whomper
Whomper, I mean no disrespect here but I didnt buy it then and still dont buy it. I have faith in a higher power but the Bible makes me question my faith more than strengthen it. I will continue reading this thread as much of what is being said here is very interesting to me. However I will not post in it anymore because I have no desire to try to make sense of it all! Â Â No disrespect taken..You threw out a very common question which is tough to answer so I just found a link..Im not looking to convert anyone just jumping in once in a while like you

TimC
Can you still play fantasy football? I mean, technically it's a form of gambling. Â Ask these Bible belt folks around here and they'll tell you poker and slot machines are sinning, but playing the lottery or horses isn't. I think that was in Timothy in the Bible or something. Could be wrong.

The Irish Doggy
The second question relates to the process of change by which evolution happens. When mutations are observed within soecies, they tend to be degenerative and result in an inferior derivation. It is therefore reasonable to ask how man can evolve to the apex (the highest) of living beings if all the facts suggest the process of evolution goes the opposite way, that is, it devolves? Â Â Something else occurred to me on this point. Others have talked about bacteria forming resistances, but there is a good example in humans: Â As we reviewed previously, all mutations are not necessarily bad. Sometimes they are a mixed bag as well. The disease Sickle Cell Anemia can be very painful or even lethal due to mis-shaped red blood cells. However, one doctor observed the number of SCA cases was much higher in the tropics. It turns out that those who carry part of the Sickle Cell genes without necessarily experiencing the disease have a much higher tolerance to Malaria. These populations were naturally selected over time to carry a gene making them more resistant to a tropical killer.

The Irish Doggy
Another interesting case observing evolution in action::  link  The cane toads go bump in the night. I hear them banging as they misjudge where my hotel door ends and the forest begins. The force of a large toad knocking wood is substantial. But the force with which the toads, which are native to Central America, have hit Australia is even greater. Brought to Queensland in 1935 to combat beetles infesting sugarcane fields, the toads have spread out from their point of entry like the shock waves of a bomb, warty legs and oversize tongues jettisoned into every conceivable ecological crack. Recent research by Ben Phillips and his collaborators at the University of Sydney has shown that the toads are evolving as they spread, perfecting their ability to adapt to the Australian landscape. The toads at the front edge of the invasion now have smaller bodies, reduced toxicity and relatively longer legs, apparently because individuals with those traits were having greater success. The native fauna has evolved in response: the mouths of some snake species are getting smaller, for instance, because so many of the snakes with big mouths were eating the poisonous cane toads and dying off. Jumpin Johnies
Another interesting case observing evolution in action::Â link Everyone agrees that there are holes in the evolution theory but it is obvious that evolution is the only theory that you'd ever consider. I have responded to 18 pages of skeptics posts and to be frank I'm worn out and my work is suffering because of it. I think I'll stop here thanks, friend. Jumpin Johnies
Religion class back in grade school and My step mom sends me info all the time. I read it. It makes me question more than explains. You should re-consider reading the books of prophecy. I'd focus on Daniel and Isaiah, then try and explain away why you think they're wrong. At least you've read the Scriptures and decided that you don't believe. Most folks never get that far.

Stop relying so much on the Bible and follow your heart. The core of any and all religions can be found there.  Be a good person and don't worry about it. You will not find validation of your spirit in a book, ANY book.

Lets just say that we have unearthed fossils of far too many creatures that you just cant find in the bible. JJ the dinosaurs existed and that isn't up for debate! Yes they did exist. Liberty University which is located here in Lynchburg had a dinosaur bone that it submitted for testing. They didn't identify the bone as that of a dinosaur so the experts couldn't classify it from a specific time period. The experts did their Carbon dating and came back with an answer of 12,000 years. Hugh 0ne
It's nice to see that this thread hasn't degenerated to name calling and insults, and there's been a lengthy discussion/debate on a topic that is very important/emotional to many people. Nice to see the powers that be not locking down a religion thread. Edited November 21, 2007 by Hugh 0ne

DMD has been clear in his actions that insult-fests get locked down.
