I was listening to my radio on the way to work today, and the DJ's were talking about a recent article in the Washington Post listing common things in our life that are either obsolete or close to it. It got me to thinking about how fast our life is changing and about what could become obsolete next.

The list (not in any particular order):

1) Truly "blind" dates (TMI available)

2) Cassette tapes (I don't even own anything anymore)

3) Land-based phone lines and answering machines (still have both but I don't know why)

4) Pay phones (haven't seen one in a long time)

5) Short basketball shorts (not sure this one is true)

6) Cigarettes (hopefully becoming obsolete)

7) Phone sex (the internet is replacing this)

8) Getting lost (all hail the GPS!)

9) Cash (due to the use of credit cards, on-line banking, etc.)

10) Body hair (yuch)

11) Having the blues (seems like everybody is on some mood-elevating drug)

12) Catalogues and catalogue shopping

13) Wrist watches (we've all got cell phones)

14) Cameras with film (digital is the thing)

15) Analog TV (this one will definitely be gone soon)

16) Record stores

17) Video stores

18) Dial-up internet and AOL CD's in the mail

19) Standing in line for tickets

20) Electric typewriters (do they still make these?)

21) The Yellow Book

22) Floppy disks

23) Rolodexes and address books

24) Lickable stamps

25) CRT monitors

26) Dot-matrix printers

27) Walkmans and portable CD players

28) Flicking lighters at the end of concerts

29) Boomboxes

34) Encyclopedia book sets

I remember an encyclopedia salesman once came to our door about 15 years ago, and I bought a complete set. Now I can't believe I did that!

Skins...

According to him, he is already been deemed "extinct". His year long banning ran out in May, but the admins decided to make it permanent. Or at least open-ended.

Too bad, he was the only liberal here willing to use the right-wingers tactics (name calling, insults, etc.) against them. Made for some darn entertaining reading.
