borge007
Duke is 1 year and 1 month old. He's a boxer. He's lost over 10 lbs in the last 6 days. We went to the specialist, and the prognosis isn't good at all. The specialist did the endoscopy, and there was not an obstruction. The walls of the stomach and the small intestine are very irritated. He says it is one of three things. One has a long name but is basically a really, really bad case of irritable bowel syndrome. He doubts it is this because it would be "the worst case I've seen in 32 years" according to the doctor. It could be a fungus which is really rare. He says more than likely it is cancer, and if it is we really can't do anything about it. He did some biopsies and sent them off. We will get results either Thursday or next Monday. I'm having a hard time believing it is cancer because it hit so fast, and he's lost so much weight so fast, and I'm an optimist at heart. My wife on the other hand is sure it is cancer. Perch-Sorry to hear the prognosis. Hopefully he'll pull through and know that you did (or are doing) all you can for him. Peace
SteelBunz
Oh no, Perch. And a boxer too.......my fave. Boxers are prone to a lot of things.....one being Histiocytic ulcerative colitis (HUC), which is an inflammatory bowel disease. But this doesn't sound like the right symptoms. Seems it mainly affects the large bowel/colon. Ulcers are pretty common with it which is probably what your vet was thinking. Gosh.....throwing some good vibes your way, hun. Tell you what though.....I loved my boxers to no end. But this breed has a very short lifespan, even among all larger breeds. Too much inbreeding I'm sure. It's really too bad.....they are so great with kids....and get so attached to their people. But once my two died (both around age 8), I made a decision that I just couldn't go through that again. Quite a few of my friends had boxers as well.....and 3 of them didn't make it past 5 yrs old. It's just too heartbreaking. You know your pets will die at some point...it's a part of life and you take that on in having a pet. But 5-8 years? That's tough. Might as well own hamsters or something.....lol. Double Agent
Sorry Perch. I've been down this road with a 6 year old Bulldog. It's terrible to see a member of the family wither away. Prayers to your family.
Rovers
Perch, I feel your pain. We had to put our boxer down a week and a half ago, kidney disease. She at least reached adulthood, it is so much harder when they go very young. I'm a prayer guy, and sendin some yer way. Good luck.

Perchoutofwater
Got a call this morning. He's doing better. They have him on an IV and are giving him a steroid and what is basically an antacid, as well as nutrition and fluids. They say he is much more energetic an even playful. They are going to try to get him to start drinking later this afternoon. I've told them that I want them to keep him until he is either eating on his own, or until it become apparent that he isn't going to make it. I'm somewhat encouraged by the news. I would think if it was cancer, one he wouldn't have gone down hill so fast, he went from perfectly healthy to losing 10 lbs in 6 days, and two he wouldn't be playful now that he has some nutrients in him. My wife is still being a pessimist, but I just think she doesn't want to set herself up to be disappointed. Thanks for the prayers, I'll keep everybody updated. The Holy Roller
My daughter went thru the exact same situation with her black lab. Peyton is just over three years old and exhibited the same symptoms. The vet took xrays, tests, etc. looking for a blockage maybe. They did the same thing your vet is doing and Peyton is now home and almost fully recovered. What was it? Thoughts and prayers your way. peepinmofo
I got the chills reading this. we had to put a dog down a few months ago because of cancer, and it just brought back memories. I actually have a boxer too. 4 year old female. I really hope everything works out for the best. It sounds like things are starting to look up, but keep the good vibes going, and when you see the little pup, give him/her a big hug and a kiss. Chief Dick
Just found out today my dog of 13 years has a bladder tumor that looks like it has spread to her kidney and liver. So, I'm guessing I'll put her down this afternoon or tomorrow. This is the second dog I've put down this year. Sad times right now. I'm sending positive vibes your way perch for your pup.
