wiegie
I definitely smirked...he could have been another huddler and worded it in poor taste... oh, I might think the two of you hold economic beliefs that are misinformed and bordering on batsh|t crazy, but that doesn't mean I don't like the two of you as people
Furd
That depends on how you define waste. I think that its something for which the amount that you pay is not at least roughly equivalent to the benefit or value that you get from it. So for me, most so called "guilty pleasures" don't count, nor does spending money on clothes, shoes . . . watches <ahem> I waste money on most gifts. I waste money buying girl scout cookies and the like from co-workers schilling for their children. for you food snobs... how much do you typically drop on a really nice dinner out? I'm not sure what a food snob is. I enjoy fine dining and I would rather lacerate my spleen with a dull knife than eat at Applebees or the like. A "really nice " dinner is different things to different people at different times. You can get really nice food and wine at a place and not spend a lot of money. (~$60) . Some people consider Ruth's Chris really nice. Really nice to me is a place in which at least a jacket is "required" (although unfortunately things are becoming casual just about everywhere.) I think you're looking at at least $300 total. (I typically spend about as much on the wine as on the food.)

darin3
Beer. But not sure if it's really wasted. Oh, and the occasional fast food run... easiest to grab a newspaper and a burger while out working than it is to make a lunch before going and eating in the car. Boring. Hmm, and fantasy football leagues. What else... ummm... that's about it. Edited June 26, 2011 by darin3
slambo
Mary Jane Mary Jane --> wacky tabacky, mota, herb, etc = Josh Gordon I buy models on EBAY(sometimes sell), mostly WW 2 aircraft and sometimes tanks/armor. 1/72nd,1/48th,1/35th & 1/32nd scales. matt770
Computer stuff. I built this screaming fast computer, got the case with the window on the side and the lights inside...it's completely and mostly I just surf and listen to Pandora so I could have spent much less. Let's see...Sunday Ticket is pricey but we both consider it a necessity...I think we overdo it with the A/C in the summertime, especially when we're under blankets watching TV....we often stay in hotels on weekends when we could drive home.....until recently, spent a fortune on fish/plants and other aquarium stuff, and now I'm looking to sell all of it. Huge pain in the ass that's gonna be, taking everything down. I used to spend thousands on concerts/travel/hotels/shirts/posters, now go to maybe 4 shows a year if that. Ursa Majoris
Music, shows, fantasy football, travel. That's about it. I don't think these are waste per se, more like non-necessities that make life worth living. I do have an irritating habit of buying stuff for the house and yard that I already have in the shed or somewhere. Oh yeah, Matt - I have that same whizz bang computer with the transparent side, a million lights, the most powerful everything, six terabytes of disk space................and pretty much only use Firefox. Edit: And beer, especially IPAs, from the specialist beer store a mile up the road. I can happily drop $8 - $10 a bottle in there. And high quality grilling meat from Von Hanson's the butcher. Square
Golf clubs. No matter what I buy I never seem to get any better. I know what you mean man. I've kind of resolved to just buying knockoffs (clones) off the web. It doesn't tick me off as much when I chunk a shot if I didn't spend a ton on the club. The Next Generation
Beer and wine. Buy Guinness and other premiums and only buy Clou Du Bois wine ($16 - $20/bottle..not real expensive, but not $10/bottle, either). I find what I like and stick with it. Costs me a pretty penny when I'm out and about, too. Everyone else's beer costs them under $5/bottle...Guinness...not so much...but, I get them back when we split checks! Got a good price on it, and wanted an mpeg player. Have to admit I like it also and the extras are pretty cool. Not sure why it has so few sales besides the Apple Competition.
