Detroit/Dallas Game Thread

Disagree. The flag should have been thrown, but it should have been offsetting penalties. Honestly I think it would have been better if the the PI stood and we were discussing how bad of a call it was today or more likely discussing how the refs tried and failed to give the Lions the win.

Cris Carter ... a former WR also thinks it was not PI

GB should be torn down.........No game should be played in whether like that. NO GAME. Well maybe Hockey.

FWIW, the high today in Green Bay is 2 degrees. You guys will actually be facing them on one of the "warmer" days.

I predict the Cowboys are going to Bring GB's House down. By running the ball all day in the cold. Rodgers is going to try and scramble and hurt his already injured calf and become immobile. He will still be dangerous but that will be the edge we need to out score them. We get to him and stop a drive that gives us the lead during the game and we end up outscoring them. That's the way I see it.

Would like to hear why they picked up the PI flag? Just because?

League office told them too, wanted to keep the game exciting and make sure Dallas had a "fair" chance to win. Sounds as reasonable as any other explanation (and I haven't heard one from the lame NFL or the refs).

Glad to see I wasn't the only one totally shocked by that play. My brother (a Lions fan) was pissed, and fuming "how could they announce the penalty then 'pick up' the flag?" I too thought I heard them announce the penalty, so I rewound it to double check.

I think that screwed the Lions double, first they lost the first down they thought they had, then because it is picked up late and probably aggravated the team, they're no fully prepared on what to do with the 4th and 1 and punt (may have gone for it if they had more time to consider it).

Was Goodell in the owners box high fiving Jerry? I know Governor Fatty was there again.

Just to be clear, not saying the Lions lost solely because of that call, they had a chance to win late. And poor play on both sides during the second half let a big early lead get away. I don't think anybody expected the Lions to play that well and be in the lead early, or with a chance to win late. So kudos to them, hopefully they come back stronger next year.

Trent Dilfer was just on Cowherds show and said the flag should never have been thrown and gave kudos to the refs for picking it up. Thank God we have people on this board that know more about football than a super bowl winnimg quarterback

I've been watching NFL Network and Sportscenter, and there are a lot more "experts" saying it was the wrong call. I've already made my stance known, and believe fans should quit whining, as I believe the Cowboys would have won anyway. I do think that if PI isn't called, Dez certainly should have been flagged. I also feel that even if they did call it, the Cowboys would have won. However, picking out one "expert" who doesn't think the flag should have been thrown among lots who think it should have stood is a bit weak.

Just be proud of your team (you deserve to be) and get ready for the Packers. People can whine all they want, it changes nothing.

Congratz to the boys second playoff win in the 21st century. Call or no call there are always a ton of them in the game, good teams overcome the bad ones and that is what the boys did. Although it pains my soul to see Dallas advance the scoreboard does not lie. GO GREEN BAY!

You were saying something about the Steelers going further then the Cowboys? :brow:

and you could have taken me up on the offer! I was unsure against the Ravens as we were 3-0 against them in the playoffs and without Bell. Life has a way of balancing out mostly and the Ravens are a good playoff team. I just love to hate the boys and will bet against them any time as I will back my boys anytime!

Well then it MUST be true. I wonder what Ray Lewis & Emmitt Smith think about it.

Not what I implied at all ... but just stating that it is not as black and white as everybody thinks. In any case I think it is irrelevant as no game boils down to a single bad play or bad call.

I think that is just inane and more of an indication of your hatred for America's Team.

I don't think the refs are infallible, they are human after all, but I don't think they are dishonest either. I think it is absolutely horrid that people are so blinded by their hate for the Cowboys that they immediately impugn the integrity and character of the referees. It is ludicrous to think there is or was a conspiracy in place to impact any part of the game. Hell, if Jerry could buy his way to the SB don't you think he would have done it long before now?

Here's a video & article from Deadspin of the NFL's head of officiating (Dean Blandino) partying on the Dallas party bus with Stephen Jones and others.

http://deadspin.com/...owbo-1618048217

also on CBS http://www.cbssports...l-execs-say-yes

Wow, and people say Goodell is crooked and should be fired. Blandino should be canned ASAP.

I liked the one NFL executive who asked "So next time he comes to visit my team should a book an evening at a strip club, is that how this works?"

I see this was from back in August, not something that happened recently. Still the appearance of impropriety is too much.

I guess we can forget about any sort of serious response from Blandino on that bogus "pick up the flag" call.

I don't agree with stevegrab at all, but there are two huge factors that drive this line of thinking:

1. The NFL, from a revenue & exposure standpoint, stand to benefit hugely from a Dallas Superbowl win. Likely much moreso than any other team, so they do have a great interest in getting them there.

2. Jerry does himself no favors by partying it up with the head of officiating.

Yup, I still say it wasn't PI. Minimal hand-checking should never draw a flag. Sure, Hitch never turned his head but he didn't plow into the WR, he was just in the way. It was great coverage and I'm glad it didn't end up hurting us. I will say that I was shocked that they picked up the flag cause you rarely see that. Guess the officials also realized it was the wrong call.

Again, there were several calls that went the wrong way for both sides and in the end, the Cowboys weathered the storm better and they have moved on.

Have you seen the plays where the ball is underthrown, receiver stops and tries to get back to the ball but cannot because the defender is in his way. PI nearly every time. This BS that Cowboyz1 is tossing out that the ball wasn't catchable because it hit the defender in the back is laughable. Had the defender not stopped the receiver from trying to get the ball (classic PI) he catches it.

You can argue that the rules suck and should be changed, but that is PI nearly every time, and in fact it was PI until some other official decided it wasn't and Morrelli went with his "better view".

OH and for those who said both players committed PI, ok so then off setting penalties and play the down over again. Don't announce it is first down, then suddenly "pick up the flag" sticking the Lions in a sudden 4th and short situation.

I'm not going to bother reading much more of the laughable Cowboy's fan responses here.

no one saw the blatant holding and hands to the face on Dallas Offensive Linemen on the drive that cowboys scored winning TD , which were never called ??? And i am talking blatant ! This after the disgraceful turn over PI call ?? honestly dallas fans are totally delusional to be patting themselves and their team on the back after that hack job by refs .

Did Dallas make plays , sure . Did detroit not make plays , and make mistakes , absolutely but that one play did effect the result and outcome of the game tremendously . To try and minimize is silly ...

If i am a Dallas fan , i take the win and get excited to play GB next week but definitely say as little as possible because to the rest of normal Football world , it was clear that there was highway robbery yesterday

I thought I posted a pic of the hands to the face somewhere here when it happened. If not I know for certain I tweeted it out.

One thing that everyone on both sides seems to be missing...good call or bad call, the head official issued a statement after the game saying the head linesman over-ruled the play and in that statement he said the words "Minimal contact" and cited that as the reason for picking up the flag...for the life of me I'm pretty sure that any contact drew a flag this year...so they picked it up, but they also admit that there was contact, albeit minimal.

CAN you RESPOND to this please

youre pathetic to be proud to be a cowboys fan after the fix

Funny thing is though that the refs fixed the game to help the public side win.... it just goes to show you that TV Ratings mean more than what the Sportsbooks want/ need.

Detroit also should have played better defense toward the end of the 1st half. Poor tackling led to Dallas getting that first half TD.

Its funny Lions were only up 10 points at half but they totally dominated that 1st half. It really felt like it should have been a 28 point lead the way Dallas was getting blasted.

business is business. i ain't hatin', just feeling bad for fans. this is for entertainment purposes only. well that's what they write on those weekly cards

no doubt it was done to help Dallas. Guys posting well Detroit still had ball at end, or like Lb so stated earlier well where has that Star been last decade if Nfl needs it so bad. Dumb asses lol! Not like league can have absolute control on outcomes but certainly can influence it at times. And Dallas has sucked past decade and were not that relevant. Now that they are there is no doubt which side league was gonna bend for here ov a Detroit brand that has almost zero value for business.

Let's not forget the no call when Dez ran onto the field without his helmet on disputing the flag for pass interference right after the play. It's clear as day and should have been a 15 yard penalty. I'm more shocked at that no call than i am of the picking up the flag.

please check in on the FIX

the integrity of the game is when i stop getting romantic about football man...

Detroits in Shambles 1 mil dollar condos going for nothing in detroit because of crime etc...

Dallas is most popular nfl team in the world.. Ratings Jerseys etc....

you really think after all these failed years and jerry world bill dollar stadium that at HALF time the head ref didnt get the nod...

its only a number of people involved.. the nfl was hoping dallas could win without help.. but they made a point in the BEG of the game when aikman said we have a NEW officaition crew... that doesnt usually work together.. LMAO

way to throw that in there.. like that even matters when is that even said..

it was obvious detroit gets that call.. one REF didnt get the nod only the HEAD knows the fix is in.. thats why the flag gets pulled back and a series of defense penalties to allow dallas to score in the end...

please check in on the fix.

I think that it is stated as contact that affects the receivers opportunity to make a play on the ball. I'm assuming the head linesman's argument would be that the contact did not affect the receiver enough to prevent him from making a play. Of course I disagree, but I also think both players were guilty to an extent.
