Bronco Billy
Just heard Shanahan interviewed on 850 AM KOA in Denver, and what is in the topic title is a quote from him when he was asked about Selvin Young and his performance the past 2 weeks. No commentray about what that means for DEN backup RBs, but it would appear that Young is in DEN's plans at that position in some way. I'd guess that Sapp may be headed back to FB, but that's pure speculation on my part.
The Wolf
Can you imagine being a yuoung player, trying to make the team, and the head coach tells that to you? That must be an amazing feeling. Good for him. Now just don't vulture from Travis Henry! Edited August 31, 2007 by The Wolf

Bronco Billy
He did apartment though and not house......... He's an UDFA. That comment might have as much to do with what he'll earn if he does indeed make the final cut as the permanence of his stay - but in either case, the implication was clear - Young had done enough to impress the coaching staff & Shanahan specifically to make DEN's roster
Perchoutofwater
He should make the team as a return man, and provides some options as a 3rd down back as well.

kingfish247
He didn't really standout at UT but he was always a solid RB. I can see how he would excel in Shanny's O.

Bronco Billy
Sorry, not paying close enough attention. He looks smaller, but apparently not. My bad. Just wondering if you knew something I didn't. From what I've seen, his body type looks strikingly like TD's. He's got very thick thighs (that ought to get me in trouble here...) and a thin waist. That of course means nothing as far as whether he'll even get 1 regular season carry in his career - but I'll tell you what, that kid patiently waits for blocking to develop on outside runs and then when he cuts, he just explodes into the second level. His acceleration from biding his time waiting for a seam and getting to full speed when the seam opens is something to behold. And he will not run OB at the end of a play - if there's an extra yard to be gained, he lowers his pad level and gets the yard. Fun kid to watch run. Turf Smurf
We'll see what happens. I can assure you (obviously) he hasn't gone unnoticed. I wouldn't be a bit suprized to see him in the game after Henry and Mike get stood up and dropped a few times. Time will tell. I may have to pick him up as a flier on a few teams. UT's spread offense uses almost all the same techniques as Shanny's run game.
irish
Looks like the Broncos have found their starting RB for the '08 season. He'll be a Top 15 RB next year.

Fun kid to watch run. he may have a similar body type (almost all RBs do), but i would say he runs a bit smaller (faster) than TD. either way, the kid really looks good to me. very nice find at RB by the broncos scouts/coaches once again. spain
Apartment? He should go ahead and invest in a house because if Shanahan makes a statement about who is starting at RB or who is making the team, you can take it to the bank!
PaulOttCarruth
Rookie Young climbs to No. 2 RB job in Denver Undrafted rookie Selvin Young has reportedly moved past Mike Bell and Cecil Sapp on the Broncos' depth chart. Young, a former committee member at the University of Texas, had an excellent preseason. The Denver Post put it well, "He pulled a Mike Bell." If Travis Henry were to get hurt, he'd likely split carries with Bell or Sapp. Young is worth grabbing in all formats. Like all Mike Shanahan decisions, this one is subject to change. Right idea, wrong player (apparently): Selvin Young - RB, Denver Broncos Aug. 31, 2:34 p.m. Young (34 car, 167 yds) led the Broncos in rushing this preseason. Mike Bell has been shifted to fullback, which could leave Young as the top backup to starter Travis Henry. First I've heard of that, but take it FWIW. EDIT: Italicized blurb from the Sporting News. That blurb came courtesy of Mike Klis, Denver sportswriter. Klis' sports knowledge isn't enough to fill a thimble. Don't put too much in those reports - but Bell did take a couple of snaps at FB, as did Sapp. It's almost like it's Sapp vs Bell for a roster spot right now, with the more versatile guy who can still capably play RB getting the nod. Perchoutofwater
He had some trouble hanging on to the ball at Texas from time to time. Don't know if you watched many of the games or not, but you are dead wrong on the fumbling issue. You are thinking about Jamal Charles, not Young. I watched every UT game I could find on TV, including the ones I had to pay for. Young does not have fumbling issues. His issue is durability. He was constantly getting dinged. He was constantly getting dinged. I seem to remember he fumbled in one of the OSU/UT games which is probably why he got that rep. But you're right, Young was constantly getting dinged but certainly isn't a fumbler. He had eligibility issues but busted his ass to get his grades back up. He worked hard and eventually became a leader on the team.
