Christmas trees

I had real trees growing up, but when I moved out and joined the military and started moving around, I went with an artificial. To me, it seems a bit wasteful to cut down a tree to have in your home for a month, and I like the convenience of not having to water it, or clean up pine needles.

However, they do smell great, and it's a nice tradition.

Well, my contention is that Christmas tree farms are good for the environment in that trees are planted and replanted year after year. And the farms are planted specifically for their purpose, so they are turning open fields back into forest land.

Not to mention my city grinds the trees up and makes free mulch for the citizens here, which I use a TON of in my yard.

Plus you get the great smelling tree. A win-win as far as I can see.

But I can definitely see the value of going artificial if you are moving around alot. And thank you for your service. :D

We have both up this year. I bought an aritificial last year much to the wifeys dismay. I wanted it mostly due to the fire hazard and the PIA it is to cleanup after the real one. Must say, its beautiful and she has taken a shine to it. We only have the real one this year because we are staying home by ourselves and wanted the smell. Essentially though, we are done with the real ones on years we are travelling. Its just so much easier and safer to have the fake one with the lights already on it, and really, if you get a good one they look really nice.

I agree and that's the reason I always liked the real trees....

I have a fake one with the lights already connected

But there's just something about those fake ones with the lights already on 'em. So easy to set up. No watering. No needles on the ground. No need to go out, pick one out, get it in the dang stand and take it out to the street (on a pre-determined day, mind you).

Oh, and Skilly.... there's "Christmas Tree Scent Sprays" you can buy. We have one by Slatkin & Co. (Bath & Body Works, I think) that smells awesome.

We have a real one this year, but were trying to find an artificial on sale prior to this holiday. We'll pick one up at the after-Christmas sales.

This pretty much sums up why I will NEVER have a fake tree. Nothing like your tree to trumpet COMMERCIALISM to the rest of the world.

From my very humble point of view... real is the only way to do it. Fake gives a terrible feeling to Christmas.... sorta like leaving Christ out of Christmas and substituting an X. Just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. But then that is just my point of view and I don't judge those that prefer fake. Each to his/her/it own.

I have always been a real tree snob. Not only a real tree, but I strongly prefer the Concolor Fir. They're hard to get out here and we used to have to hunt for them. They look and smell terrific! I think they're easier to come by out west.

Anyhow...with all the goings on in the family the last couple years, artificial is looking better and better to me. I'm just tired of the mess and the work. And those prelit trees are so perfect looking....

This year we have a real tree of unknown origin (I think it's just a plain old balsam..damn ornaments keep falling off). We didn't even cut it down ourselves. Meh.

Now that's the best part.... getting everyone together, remembering the saw half way to where you plan on getting the tree... tromping through the snow..finding the perfect tree that is way too big and is 40 miles from the car/truck....everyone getting pneumonia..... I mean, how can you beat that for getting into the Christmas spirit?

:D

Artificial here...I miss the smell...but being fake...it is a beautiful tree. I usually get a wreath for inside the house and for outside the front door...that way you get some of the wonderful evergreen smell.

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays everyone...peace/love/health to you all !!!
