No dumb ass they didn't have free agency the only way to acquire players were to trade bribe for them or bring them up thru the organization via scouting having bribed their parents / teachers / whoever.

Adjusted for accuracy......dumb ass.

No doubt Utley is the best player out there, but it takes a team to win not just one player. All ya'll need to do is win two more.

 What did I do ?

You be the judge and tell me what is different about these topics ...a hint is that one of the things wrong is the title for the WS and there is one other thing(you know superstition is a big part of baseball)...when I played I always stepped on the foul line and 2nd base on my way out to CF)

Rookies - Phils

Dodgers - Phils

Yankees/Phillies

As long as both teams are playing with the same strikezone it really doesn't matter.

And now it doesn't matter period. The best team in baseball are World Champs again!! So much for superstitions. Posada said it best, the difference in the Yanks being able to make this run was the upgraded pitching.

Congrats to the Yanks and their fans!

Every 9 years or so money will buy a championship  Congrats Yankee fans :D

Yep, the odds are in their favor every year, as they always pay more than any other team. This year, they did what they should do every year with that advantage.

Who needs a farm system when the Yankees have the Pirates

D'Amaso Marte? This is your idea of a farm system?

Nady..And I am sure there have been others. Not just the Yankees. Bay, Mclouth . The Pirates get stripped of their talent on a yearly basis by plenty of teams looking to make a playoff push. They have some great young guys right now. Lets see how long they last. I am an Orioles fan :D I didnt have a horse in the WS race but sour grapes the day after it is over is a little weak IMO. They did nothing wrong , outside of the rules , to win this title. Until baseball gets a cap people just have to deal with it

This further proves the point. The Yankees have a payroll that is close to 70 Million higher than the 2nd highest payed team. It is baseball's fault, not the Yankees, but, my point still stands. They should be embarrassed if they don't win with that large of an advantage.

Agreed. That said, there is no way on Earth most teams could afford what the Yanks afford so any meaningful salary cap will have to be much lower than the current Yankee payroll. That alone is enough to ensure that it won't happen.
