xtra
I didn't say it was wrong, I think it will be sad if that half second is the defining moment of his life. I said it was a tremendous, athletic play. I'm glad for him. And the Giants and their fans. But I think he'll have greater moments in his life. At least I hope so. I dont think a person is limited to one defining moment in their life.If that is one to him ,I dont think it would lessen the importance of any of the others he might have. Bier Meister
there was soemthing about the pass/catch that reminded me of the duke hill to laettner play: positioning of tyree, jump ball, catch over the head.
whomper
No doubt one of the greatest plays in superbowl history. The hand strength alone is so impressive as well as the ridiculous concentration. Couple that with Eli breaking free and its NFL history. I actually thought of Lynn Swann right after that catch. Some of the acrobatic and gravity defying catches he made in the superbowls were just amazing but I think the Tyree catch trumps everyone. As far as where this ranks in his life its the old cliche many athletes use. They usually say "Except for my kids being born..Or when I got married etc" before they rank major sports accomplishments. Professionally speaking I dont think Tyree ever tops that catch in a million years when ranking achievements Edited February 5, 2008 by whomper

Swiss Cheezhead
But I saved some boys lives once and I think they'll rank that a little higher than a football game. Well, THAT moment is certainly more significant than a great catch in the SuperBowl. If Tyree has to save somebody's life someday, I'm sure his SB catch will pale in comparison. My point, though, is that it might be -- in fact, it will probably be -- the one moment in his life he was needed to perform under enormous pressure, especially because he's spent the majority of his life WORKING on the skills that he used in that moment. That's why there's a good chance he'll consider it the "pinnacle" of his life. You want to characterize that as "sad"? Why would you go out of your way to be negative about something that's obviously so positive to one man and his entire family? YES, Tyree will almost certainly do something later in life that's more important than that catch, but comparing being a grandpa, in general, to catching that ball is not only unnecessarily negative, but it's also useless. Ursa Majoris
part of why it was so amazing was that i don't think i've ever seen a catch like that, let alone in that hugh of a situation. pinning the ball against your helmet and then falling backwards, having your back bent, and keeping the ball maybe an inch above the ground? simply incredible. i think aikman made the point as well that he'd never seen anything like that. Was it an inch above the ground? Or did the point of the ball actually touch for a split second before Tyree held it up? Makes no real difference because IMO he had complete control throughout thus the ground is irrelevant but at the time I thought the ball did touch briefly. 4th&goal
That was an amazing, mind blowing thow and catch. Manning escaping a certain sack with 3 guys hanging on to his jersey. Then a catch with one hand pinning it to his helmet, to a two hand grab during a spine-snapping suplex, and he unquestionably held onto it. No need for replay or controversy. Amazing. It was a good superbowl. I'd say it was great in the fact that a huge underdog upset the undefeated and hated by me Pats.
