Exactly; perch and others like him probably slam people devoting time to disc golf or whatever stupid new pastime comes up, but think nothing about people who spend tons of $$$$ and time on stuff like regular golf, fishing, horseshoes, etc. Whatever floats somebody's boat, IMO. The two are very similar. The highest paid athlete in the world (including endorsements) plays golf. If you can name a professional or semi-professional "disc golfer" I will email a roundhouse kick to your inbox. Anyway, the way I heard 4:20 came about because it was a police code for possession of tweed. I've also heard stoners reference it as "tea time" in some other country so they just used that time of day to get high after school. I think the police code one is more legitimate. It's the police code and, just because guys have been wasting tons of time smacking a ball around since the 16th century doesn't make it a more legit way to waste time than throwing frisbees at a basket. If anything, one could argue that disc golf doesn't require insane amounts of water, chemical fertilizers and pest/herbicides. Again, I'm not even and advocate for the sport. When I was in college, I would golf and fish regularly. Once I got to the real world I realized I didn't have time for such time consuming hobbies, if I wanted to be successful in what I do. So now I've got a 15 year old pair on knock off clubs that I'll pull out about once or twice a year for charity golf tournaments. The only time I fish is deep sea fishing on vacation, or from the pier at Mom and Dads when my little girls want to fish. Never got into horseshoes. I was mainly ragging on the fact that there was a semi-pro frisbee golf, not against the game itself, even though I do think it is kind of lame. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. So there ya go, someone's parents out there invented the term 4/20. And remember this: There are NOT 420 chemicals in Josh Gordon. It's about 315, the num. goes up or down depending on what you're smoking. 4/20 is NOT police code or Maryjane. Frisbee golf is probably somewhere below the X-games and above televised Scrabble. The top two PGA golfers pocketed 3 million a year last year without endorsements. Seems pretty professional to me. If golf is not a sport, what do you call it? I realize it is not as physically draining as a triathlon but I don't know if that makes it something other than a sport. You've just made a non-argument akin to saying that since it says so in the bible, it must be true. FWIW, I actually think that golf is a sport and have a pretty liberal definition of professional means. Basically, if someone pays you, you're a pro. It is not my intention to say that golf is not a sport, because if I was pressed to define, I'd say it is. In fact, I think the entire notion of trying to definitively define things as sport or non-sport is somewhat absurd. It reeks of "I'm better than you". My point is simply this: Either they're both games or they're both sports but whatever they are, if you're a golfer and you imply that disc golf is a silly waste of time, you are sorely lacking perspective. Because, ultimately, both are one thing and one thing only, an excuse to get out of the house and enjoy yourself...maybe. Buzkashi, cricket, and lacrosse all go back a ways and I'll bet you don't give two craps about those sports. Again, I'm not dogging golf per se, just that MOST pastimes tend to be tremendous wastes of time; the semi-pro disc golfer probably has as much a chance of "hitting the big time" as about 99.9% of "real" golfers.
