hooknladder
POSTED 1:05 p.m. EDT, September 7, 2007 WADE WILSON SAYS HE TOOK HGH FOR IMPOTENCE by Michael David Smith Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson has revealed that when he said he took human growth hormone to improve his quality of life, he was talking about one specific aspect of his life. Gary Jacobson of the Dallas Morning News reports that Wilson, who was fined $100,000 by the NFL and suspended for the first five games of the season, says an attempt to treat erectile dysfunction related to his diabetes is what caused him to use HGH. "That was my way of trying to cover that subject without coming right out and saying that," Wilson said Thursday when asked if he suffered from impotence, a common complication of diabetes. There's a quality of life that I don't really want to say a great deal about." All snickering aside, it's understandable that erectile dysfunction is a medical problem that Wilson would feel uncomfortable discussing. But as anyone who's ever watched an NFL game on TV knows all too well, there is no shortage of pills that doctors can prescribe for the problem, and it's hard to have much sympathy for Wilson, who chose to go through an illegal Internet pharmacy instead. Wilson will be back with the Cowboys after Week Five. Although he will be paid during his suspension, his fine constitutes about one-third of his annual salary, meaning he'll lose approximately the same portion of his salary that an NFL player who gets a five-game suspension would lose. Perchoutofwater
All kidding aside, I've agreed pretty much with all of Roger G's suspensions he has handed down, but this one is just stupid. The reason players are suspended for using "performance" enhancing drugs, is because of the competitive advantages it supposedly gives those who are willing to risk their health by taking them. The fact that Wade Wilson is taking HGH does not in anyway affect his performance as a coach or the teams performance, and does not give him or the Cowboys a competitive advantage. I think this suspension is a stupid knee jerk reaction by the NFL. Am I the only one that sees it as such?

If one person could use their lack of boner skillz, why couldnt everyone just do that? Whats to differentiate Wilson or Rodney Harrison? Perchoutofwater
Probably. If one person could use their lack of boner skillz, why couldnt everyone just do that? Whats to differentiate Wilson or Rodney Harrison? Well the main difference is Wade Wilson isn't on the field making plays, so any advantage the drugs may give his body do not in anyway affect his performance. True, but the players are supposed to learn from coaches... I agree with the suspension, but the fine is a bit much.
muck
I think this falls under "conduct detrimental to the league" ... If you do something illegal, beyond a parking ticket, you very well may get dinged by the commish...regardless of what you do. ...I'm just waiting for the first PR Director to get arrested for getting in a fight at a bar (or whatever) to get slapped with something...or, maybe even someone in the commish's office... If it is illegal, then I agree. I don't know that what he did was illegal.
Pope Flick
He's a coach and needs to be held to the same standards, if not moreso because of his position, than the players. This sucks, and I'm hoping no Bears are revealed to have done this stuff. This is going downhill: he was found out through a federal sting operation and now is saying he took it instead of viagra? or levitra? Or any one of the numerous boner medication out there. That's really really dumb.
HowboutthemCowboys
He's a coach and needs to be held to the same standards, if not moreso because of his position, than the players. BullSega!. It's against the rules for the players to take this stuff so they cannot gain an advantage on the field over a player that's clean and playing by the rules. If Wade Wilson can't get it up, and takes HGH so he can ,what advantage does this give the team that he coaches?

If Wade Wilson can't get it up, and takes HGH so he can ,what advantage does this give the team that he coaches? That's...not the point. Even Goodell said as much: That's how serious Goodell is about cleaning up the NFL's image, which of late seems to have eye black running down its cheeks weekly. His message screamed through the handling of Wilson is twofold: * Those in authority positions will be held to a higher standard since they are examples for the players. Just guessing, but everyone in the league knows unequivocally now that when he says no alcoholic beverages allowed at team functions, including charter flights home from games - sanctioned by the team or not - he means no alcoholic beverages. * Those in authority positions better not even think of possibly being the middle man in this HGH stuff, meaning purchasing banned substances for players to keep their names off any official documents, although in no way has Wilson been accused of being an in-between man in any sort of scam.
