posty
http://www.tmz.com/2009/08/06/john-hughes-dies/ John Hughes has died of a heart attack. Hughes suffered the heart attack while talking a morning walk during a trip to NYC to visit family. He directed such hits as "The Breakfast Club," "Sixteen Candles" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." He was 59. Story developing...

millerx
very sad. maybe instead of the typical responses to tragic death, we could use this thread to honor the memories of the characters or scenes he brought us in his movies.... Add some of your most memorable to your post. The bathroom scene in sixteen candles, where all the geeks and underclassmen pay money to see Molly Ringwald's undies!! Chavez
I've always found Hughes a bit hollow. Very condescending and pandering when you get to the heart of it.

SteelBunz
OK...let's not get so tightassed here........lol. His films weren't meant to be deep, meaningful Academy Award winners. They were mostly films centered around high schoolers or adolescents or ridiculous situation comedies. And he was brilliant in directing kids and teenagers. And teenagers ARE condescending and sarcastic. Light.....funny.....damn entertaining. He'll be missed in this household. So many quotable lines.......hmmmmmmm....... "You're not a gnat.....are you Bug?"
TDFFFreak
My sister watched the sh!t out of Sixteen Candles, hence I was forced to watch too. After about the 10th time, I began to appreciate the movie. FBDO wasn't bad either. RIP. Edited August 7, 2009 by TDFFFreak

AtomicCEO
I saw uncle Buck for the first time in a theatre and swore up and down that it was the worst movie I'd ever seen and would rather jump in front of a moving vehicle than see it again. Then the next weekend some girls we knew wanted to go see it So we went. I've probably seen it 10 more times since then. Classic.

That's so funny......I saw "Airplane" in the theatre with my best friend. Middle of an afternoon.....only about 7 other people in the theatre. We actually thought about leaving halfway through. Now...we were two pretty funny people, always quick with a joke.....and we thought these jokes sucked. Saw it again 10 years later......instant classic in my mind.
