muck
First: Some of this is set in stone. Some of it is not. It'll be obvious which is which after reading. Second: If you want in, make a little post below. While this won't be a FCFS sort of thing, I would love to have some newer members to mix it up with some old-timers (so to speak). So, if you've been around for a while, there's less of a need to make much commentary ... but if you're new, and interested, post away. Once we get filled up, I'll pass out the league MB entry keys. BEST DRAFTER IN THE HUDDLE -- BDITH Here's the idea --- one group of 10-14 owners participate in three drafts against each other (each one out of a different draft slot), plus one auction ... forming four 'leagues' with the same group of people ... each 'league' is all-play and best ball (i.e., no trades or lineup, FA or WW decisions) ... and the owner with the best W/L across all four leagues gets to wear the moniker of being the BEST DRAFTER IN THE HUDDLE. Getting down to the nitty-gritty ... assuming 12 teams: * Three serpentine drafts & one auction (via message board) starting EITHER the Tuesday after the 3rd preseason game ... OR ... the Tuesday after the 4th preseason game (depending on opinions) * All serpentine drafts would start the same day, so you'd probably be "up" in one league pretty much all the time, and as a result of toggling between the drafts, it'd go pretty quickly (i.e., 3-4 days), because while you made your picks in the 4th league, you'd be up (or close to up) again in the first league. * The auction would require at least a once-a-day check in (i.e., players are awarded every 24hrs based on when the most recent bid was made; see below for additional detail). * Same scoring rules for all leagues; PPR-based (I've already got it all finalized --- see below) * Best ball / all-play (as said previously) * 20 person rosters; no trading or FA activity * Lineups of QB / RB / RB / WR / WR / WR / WR / TE ... no kickers or defense to make drafting that much less painful ... OR (if we can find a league hosting site that will allow it) ... QB / RB / WR / TE, plus a flex combo of either RB / WR / WR / WR - or - RB / WR / TE / TE - or - WR / WR / WR / WR ... * Scoring is PPR (modified) and is the same for each league -- points for rushing attempts (same regardless of position), points for receptions (different amounts based on position; I've run the math) The three serpentine draft slots are awarded as a package and based on a dice roll and are as follows: 1 / 8 / 12 ... value of 21 ... 2 / 7 / 11 ... value of 20 ... 3 / 6 / 10 ... value of 19 ... 4 / 5 / 9 ... value of 18 ... ...and there will be three teams with each combination of draft slots ... The MB auction could be as follows ... starting the Saturday August 29th - Wednesday September 2nd: * I will put forward _____ players (at least 60, as many as 100?) for bidding each day on the BDITH message board ... players will be available at multiple positions (say day one is all of the Tier I and Tier II QBs, RBs, WRs and TEs ... per thehuddle's cheatsheet ... 46 players would go out Saturday night) ... you cannot have more $$ bid than you have available to fill your roster ... you are encouraged to bid often to get the player to your price. * All players receiving a bid within 1hr of midnight (central) remain open for bidding for another day; if that same player has received a bid within 30 minutes of midnight the second night, they are open for a third day; if that same player has received a bid within 5 minutes of midnight the third night, they are open for a 4th day; the player will be awarded to the highest bidder at midnight on the 4th day ... thereby guaranteeing that the top two Tiers of players are awarded before Week 4 preseason games). * In the event there are one or more players at a position that I deem 'key players', I will hold up releasing more players of that position until the 'key player' is awarded (i.e., if, say, SJax is the last of the Tier I and Tier II RBs that hasn't been awarded and his auction keeps rolling over, I won't put out the Tier III RBs until SJax is awarded so that everyone knows where they stand with the RBs before putting out the next flight of RBs --- HOWEVER, I may move to the Tier IV RBs, though, to get guys awarded and to not waste time). ==> Also, we may possibly limit the total number of bids that you can submit per player so that we hopefully limit the number of days that each player is available on the MB so we can get all the players allocated in a timely fashion ... maybe a max of five bids per owner per player? ==> While it sounds a bit crazy (the MB auction), I've done them before and they wen't pretty well. It will be better than trying to get everyone in a chatroom at the same time ... but, if by some crazy chance we can get everyone in a chatroom at once, we'll do that ... won't try to make that happen to get the league full, though. ********************** Scoring Rules: 0.05pts / passing yard 0.10pt / rushing / receiving yard 0.20pt / rushing attempt 0.20pt / RB reception 1.00pt / WR reception 1.50pt / TE reception 6.00pt / passing TD 6.00pt / rush / receiving TD -3.00pt / INT I've used this exact scoring for a few years in a pretty intense quasi-dynasty league, and it provided some VERY balanced scoring. Top 24 players: 2005: 6 QBs / 8 RBs / 9 WRs / 1 TE 2006: 7 QBs / 7 RBs / 10 WRs / 0 TEs 2007: 9 QBs / 3 RBs / 10 WRs / 2 TEs AVG TOP 24: 7 QBs / 6 RBs / 10 WRs / 1 TE Top 60 players: 2005: 15 QBs / 14 RBs / 24 WRs / 7 TEs 2006: 17 QBs / 16 RBs / 23 WRs / 4 TEs 2007: 16 QBs / 14RBs / 24 WRs / 6 TEs AVG TOP 60: 16QBs / 15 RBs / 24 WRs / 6 TEs ... anyhow, I like it and I've used it before ... ********************** Regarding the $$: First, I'm not sure how/if we can administer these leagues. I've asked MFL if there would be a way to host this for the price of one MFL site, but haven't heard back (it's been a couple of weeks, too ... been too busy to stay on top of it). I'm going to assume for now that we'd have to buy four separate leagues from MFL. Second, the entry fee should be high enough to make sure that nobody will slack-off and keep everyone waiting around for the serpentine drafts or be so inattentive during the MB auction they fjord it up for everyone else. As a result, I'm thinking that $200-300 / owner is the right number. I'll be using $250 for the break down of how the $$s are split. So: 12 teams @ $250 / ea = $3,000 4 league websites @ $75/ea = $300 Total to allocate = $2,700 Best W/L in each of the four leagues = $100 / ea ($400 total) #2 W/L in each of the four leagues = $50 / ea ($200 total) #3 W/L in each of the four leagues = $25 / ea ($100 total) Best W/L across all four leagues = $1,000 #2 W/L across all four leagues = $500 #3 W/L across all four leagues = $300 #4 W/L across all four leagues = $200 Bottom team is kicked out of the league and replaced with fresh blood. The objective is to find the best drafter, and the bottom guy is obviously not cut out for that sort of recognition. Ties are broken by total points scored (in the league in case of single-league winnings, or across all four leagues in the case of four-league winnings). ********************************* If you are interested, please sign up here. If you are interested (but at a lower $$ amount), please sign up here and lmk what your $$ amount would be. If you have any suggestions, feel free to put them forward. Also, remember that your ideas may not carry the day.
Zooty
interested you may have to lower the $ to fill all the slots this late, maybe not
Chief Dick
You know I'm interested, but no way at $250. My cap is $100, unless you want to personally want to call Mrs. CD and ask for more money. (honestly, she may give it to you. she thinks you're pretty keen) Anyway, the only change I would make is to do an online auction where everyone is there at the same time. Bronco Billy
I'd be interested, but would also have to go on a payment plan. There's no way I can justify taking $250 out of one month's budget for FF. Great idea, and the scoring is very similar to what I set up in a dynasty league about 7 years ago. The balance is outstanding and rewards players/positions appropriately. Nicely done, muck. I'd also like to see where muto and xpattonx stand in regard to this league. They both claim to put up substantial amounts of money each year for numerous leagues and have made some claims that I'd love to see backed up. Atlanta Cracker
I'm interested. I love drafting but get lazy with the ongoing maintenance so this sounds like a perfect fit. I'd prefer a little lower entry fee like $150 or so but the full amount is doable. I think you could do this all with one MFL league. Let's say you have 12 owners... Create a league with 4 divisions of 12 teams each and allow duplicate players. You would set up MFL for the lineup maintenance so individual owners wouldn't even need to login to that league. You would have to use 3 other leagues for the drafts and get the rosters moved over (probably manually) but that should work.
tonorator
why the heavy fee? isn't the title of best drafter in the huddle sufficient reward?

Set it up like the Huddle Ladder, and allow duplicate players, but only 1 player per league. I think you could confine all drafts to one site (The Ladder has several drafts that can/do run concurrently) which would be the ultimate ease of facility. I think you'd also save on the league fees that way, instead of paying $75/league. I know for a fact that you can run your scoring system there. alchico
You can use MFL. Just set up a Deluxe league. Cost is $129.95 i believe. 4 conferances each with their own draft. You will probably have to manually input the auction draft but the others can be held on the site.
Big Country
As noted via PM, I'm interested but could not commit to the auction portion. Drafts easy enough to manage, the dedication required to manage that type of auction I could not fit in to my schedule right now.

Drafts easy enough to manage, the dedication required to manage that type of auction I could not fit in to my schedule right now. I am interested in this at the current or lesser prices. I agree with BC , the draft potion would be no problem, but the auction might.( not sure as I have never done a slow or online auction, only live) If you are going thru with this please let me know if you can include me, as I would then stop looking for other leagues to join as the season gets closer. Thanks

The Wolf
Interesting concept, Muck. I don't have the time for this type of league but it would be interesting to follow along with your progress in getting it off the ground.
Avernus
...man...last year would have been an ideal position for me... I wish I could get in, but can't.. $250 entry fee? PAGING HENRY MUTO!
TDFFFreak
Interesting concept, Muck. I don't have the time for this type of league but it would be interesting to follow along with your progress in getting it off the ground. The high entry fee is one thing, but once you get past the week or two of drafting, the time commitment is nothing during the regualr season. That's why I think this will be a great league. It appears that the general comments range from: * No changes / looks good as-is * Lower money / payment plan * No slow auction (either a 'normal' auction or another draft) Anything else? I am in but unable to commit to an online slow auction. If this were switched to either a live one night auction or an additional draft, I would be in. I can handle the price point proposed, but would be willing to do this for less if that gets enough interested parties.
