Perchoutofwater
The state of Texas just made hunting with crossbows legal for the general public. It used to be only the handicapped could use them (yeah, insert joke here.). I just don't have enough time to be proficient with shotguns, rifles, pistols and a bow. I was considering buying a crossbow, as I'd think the learning curve would be much less than with a bow, and I'd sure like to get an extra month of hunting in. Does anyone have one, and have any of you hunted with one before? If so, any suggestions on what to get?
wiegie
I shot a cross-bow at my wedding reception, does that count?

I've never shot a crossbow but have friends that hunt with them. The comment that I have is you said "you don't have time to be proficient with a bow". The ones they sell nowadays are'nt your gradpa's or even your Dad's bow. Go to a dealer that knows what they're doing. Get set up with the proper draw weight / length and you'll be shooting great groups before you leave the building.

cre8tiff
When I was younger, you could hunt with one, but only in gun season.

TimC
Strangling it with your bare hands still remains the only manly way to kill the beast.

I'm looking into getting one for next season, so I have a while. I'm just trying to sort through the BS and find something that is good, but I don't just want to buy the crossbow from the company with the biggest marketing budget. westvirginia
Texas was the same way until this year. WV as well, and it might still be that way. I've always been a gun-only guy, so

I will get back to you with this info later today. I know that she started off with a real cheap bow that was given to her and then she ended up buying a new bow that she really wanted.
