Lady.hawke
Mao Mao and drag queen For the record, I could not care less about the drag queen - considering the current occupants of the White House. (Google Larry Sinclair's book) However, as it is likely that Mao killed more innocent citizens than Hitler and Stalin combined, it seems unseemly that his image should show up on the nation's Christmas Tree. Actually, even without the all time despot record, Mao should not be there. It shall be fun to read the inevitable opposition to this post. Merry Christmas to all! And who is this "piller of academic and character success"? HO CHI MINH Absolute fact, I actually touched the statue myself during one of the Punahou Carnivals! Dr. Sacrebleu
While I think the choice of designers for this tree was not the best due to his history of controversial poiltical designs, and because we live in an age when even the most picayune decisions get overanalysed to death by the opposition (read some of the comments from the blog that lady.hawke posted. OMFG!) did none of you notice that the image of Mao has him with garrish rouge on his cheeks, and blue powder over his eyes? How anyone can read that as a reverential image (as many on the blog, and TV have done), let alone an objective image of a tyrant (as lady.hawke does here) is beyond me. I can't find the author of this image (obviously it references Andy Warhol's silk screen of Mao, which also would have not been 'inapropriate' Warhol being one of the most important artists of the 20th century) but I will bet you a zilliion dollars that this is not a state sanctioned portrait of Mao. Rather a strong critique of Mao

His work is tremendous...very cool and functional... These guys are funny...check out the other ornaments. I espcially like the Obama on Mt. Rushmore...very clever. Nothing says "Mao-rry Transmas!" like the White House Tree. Edited December 24, 2009 by SuperBalla
