The Darkside
what about shawne merriman, he plays both end and linebacker, not sure if the chargers are playing the 4-3 or the 3-4 but this guy could fit. he's fast 4.67/40 and a 40 inch jump at 274 according to nfl.com. spain
Shawn Merriman is the pick here. No question if he falls this far..

CaP'N GRuNGe
But Merriman is a Maryland guy and therefore must fall to Coach Tice at 1.18.
Swiss Cheezhead
Marcus Spears, DE, LSU Chargers only care about filling needs. 3-4 DE is their biggest need -- definitely a bigger need than LB or WR -- and Spears is a prototypical 3-4 DE. E. James is an oft-injured 4-3 DE who will get easily worn down by the OT's inside technique.

Ziachild007
So how about Spears here and Merriman to HOU next to cover their need at LB. 745685[/snapback] Negative on Merriman to the Texans. Merriman is a OLB, which is not their weak spot (at the moment at least) Wong, Babin, & Peek. Depending on what they do with Sharper, really affects the whole LB corps. E. It's not convincing that he can have great success as a classic 4-3 defensive end. But, with a lot of NFL teams using the 3-4 alignment, he could be productive like New England standouts Richard Seymour and Ty Warren. this is the nfl.com profile on merriman: A rare talent with the ability to play away from the line as a strong-side linebacker, off the edge as a rush end or in a three-point stance as a down lineman. He has excellent quickness and explosion off the ball. Merriman is more productive when allowed to roam the field. He has the flexibility, knee bend, agility and speed to make plays down the line, string out the run and shoot the gaps with suddenness. i dont know, either one of these guys would be a great pick here for the bolts, i'm sticking to my first thought and going with the more multi-dimensional guy in merriman.but like cheezhead pointed out spears looks to be a great fit as well. chieftain mike
What the Chargers need on defense is a pass rush!! They need to reduce the amount of time their DB's are in coverage. If they go Defense, I think they go with the best payer who pressures the QB. I say Spears here.
