muck
...without calling in "the rust belt"? Is it in the midwest?
The Holy Roller
My in-laws are from New York and when Mrs HR and I lived in Ohio they considered it the western frontier. I consider it the eastern boundary of the midwest (as do most geography texts).
Cameltosis
Most would say Mid West, some would say Great Lakes.

Azazello1313
midwest and rust belt are the two that first come to mind. historically, the definition of "midwest" has seemed to spread a little westward over the years, to include states like nebraska and kansas. but the real, original "midwest" was basically the great lakes states -- ohio, indiana, michigan, illinois, wisconsin. that is the region ohio is most solidly a part of. Big John
None of these answers are correct until BJ SAYS they're correct. Midwest or Great Lakes would work best. Historians would also say Northwest Territory.

These would be the Plains along with South Dakota and North Dakota. When I was in college in Ohio we got into a heated argument at the bar over this subject. We finally agreed that population wise it was the midwest.
