Another factor with the divisions, SF was in a 4 team division for most of that 1981-2000 period that somebody was looking at, while the NFC East was 5 divisions. That meant every year NFCE played 8 division games, while SF played just 6 and had 2 other games against possibly better opponents (better than what would be the 5th place team in a division, the extra division games for NFCE).

( im not embarrased , I am imitating a saints fan from that era )

I was going to make a comeback by providing a stat on how many playoff games Dallas has won in x years. However, when I went to do a search it provided me with something much funnier. You know how when you do a web search it automatically starts to fill it in? When you type a web search "how many playoff games" the top search is how many has Dak won and a couple down from that is how many has Romo won. You wanna borrow my bag? I haven't used it in a VERY long time.

NFC east is the greatest division in football and for many years they were the most physical.  SF cruised to a division title in most years during their heydey. Their road was much easier than others , but they earned the respect as an all time great because they won in the playoffs as well . Of course a team would put up some resistance here and there . Someone made the comment about the Pats havinbg an easy regular season road. I found the Niners had a similar path. No big whoop

Oh modern day Cowboys are a joke. No dispute here . My comparison was just to the Brady / Pats easy road as compared to the Niners

text removed I was wrong

This focus on "other teams in the division" ignores the rest of the schedule those teams players. Which for NFCW would include two more teams outside the division, instead of having a 5th team that gave them 2 more wins.

Hmm Cowboys 1971 SB, that looks like 3 teams under .500, PHI's 6-7-1 is under .500 by a full game.

I said 2 years with one team at or above .500 , where was I wrong ?

In nearly half of your sb seasons you had a full division under .500 .

Full division should probably say rest of the division, because the 49ers are in the division and not below .500 ;)

Winning percentages by the "other team" in the divisions for each year could be interesting but I'm not trying to prove anything so I'm not doing the math.

That's all well & good, but I thought we were comparing the 9ers years of success to the Patriots years of success.

Whoa!  No smiley face after that bro?  100% Sicilian blood here, and proud of it.  Your next FedEx delivery might include a vest filled with fish. 😁

As Bill Maher would say..." I kid of course".

I protest this post and ask for its removal.  I don't need to be reminded of those awful Giants seasons. 😉
