Guest Sores
I was the front car at a light on Desert Inn yesterday. For those of you that don't know Las Vegas, DI is a very busy cross town 4 lane street. As the light was turning yellow for the cars crossing the intersection in front of me, a car came out of nowhere going at LEAST 100 MPH. It was going down Buffalo, another fairly busy street. There was a small dip in the road just past the intersection and this car hit it and caught serious air. Came down and pieces of the car flew everywhere....this guy didn't stop....he was running from or to something.....he was going CRAZY fast. Reminded me of the day I got my license in 1980 and a friend of mine and I took my 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix (with it's 400 4BBL engine) out on a country road. As the speedometer passed 135 MPH, I took my foot off the gas. The car was so happy and drove so smooth at that speed....but I was scared sh/tless. First day I had my license. Geez I was stupid. I was a pretty "mature" kid growing up...but how stupid was that.

Piranha
I did 100 mph in a new (at the time) Monte Carlo a few years back. Thats the fastest I can remember.
darin3
I was driving with a buddy and he got it over 100.
Big F'n Dave
Reminded me of the day I got my license in 1980 and a friend of mine and I took my 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix (with it's 400 4BBL engine) out on a country road. 1299685[/snapback] The fastest I ever drove was in a 1977 Grand Prix LJ (the last year they made the big ones). It had the 400 in it, too. Wasn't much off the line, but it had a decent top end. Pegged it out at the high end of the speedometer - maybe 130 - a couple of times. And you're right, it just skated at top speeds. God help anybody who would find themselves in the path of that behemoth.
yo mama
Got pulled over doing 115 or so when I was in high school.
skylive5
Tad over 120. Young, dumb, and stupid, to be sure. Been a passanger a couple times at speeds over that. The best was in Jan of '66 when a friend and I were caught hitchhicking on I-5 in Seattle. State cop had some kind of Dodge. Probably one of the fastest cars I have ever been in. He let it out all the way and let me tell you... that sucker booked. Absolutely booked!
KevinL
My 1990 Acura Integra didn't have much acceleration left at 126 MPH.
I Like Soup
About 160 in a '93 RX-7 twin turbo...several times.
The Captains Wench
I know it’s not too impressive, but I got my little Honda Civic up over 90 and drove at that speed for a good 20 minutes on Rte 287. After that driving at 70 seemed really slow.
H8tank
I was in the lifepartners Maxima SE a few weeks ago, long desolate 2 lane hwy about 2am... the car was passing 120mph when it shifted into 4th and began pulling away... I let up. I was a Corvette specialist for a few years for Chevrolet, so of course I had to be familiar with what the car can do. However, the boss wouldn't let me drive his Zr1. TimC
'94 Corvette LT1 - 136 MPH with the significant other in the car. We go on cruises across the Jamestown Ferry on to roads with no cars. The SO looked down and saw the digital speedometer and freaked out because it really hunkers down at 100 and gets ultra-smooth. I didn't see it but she said that's what it read. '98 Corvette LS1 - 158 MPH (mebbe more) in Bowling Green KY on the Interstate between some Australia zoo we had visited and Bowling Green. Three of us were side by side on the 3-lane interstate getting it. About the time we slowed down and separated a 4th Vette flew by us doing at least 180. '87 Chevy S-10 pick-up - 80 MPH going downhill with a 40 MPH wind.
twiley
I've never paid much attention but I do know I broke 110 a few times driving back from New Orleans to St. Louis in college along I-55.

Furd
My car? 134 mph. I attained a speed of 150 mph (give or take a couple) in a friend's Porsche. Edited February 1, 2006 by Furd
Swampnuts
I rode along on a shift with a friend of mine who works in the Highway patrol, he was up over 120 a few times. It felt like the wheels weren't touching the friggin' road.
Grits and Shins
Not sure in a car ... but in my youth on several occassions I had my motorcycle up to near 100.
cheezhed
115..driving my buddy's 5.0 liter mustang. We actually did 120 later that night when he was driving. 120 seems a hell of a lot faster when your in the passanger's seat!
Duchess Jack
120 when I was in my teens - played the king route 78 outside of that I am really pokey.... that is unless I am heading down to Florida (we've driven non-stop like 6 times) or to upstate NY camping. In either case I will occasionally look down and see myself going around
Kid Cid
140 in my Vette outside Wilimantic, CT. Still had plenty more to go. It wasn't a long enough stretch of road for a tru top speed run.
ChuckB
I had a 98 ranger 4.0 governer stopped it at about 110, fastest was probably around 115-120 in a 91 mustang lx 5.0 I had.
