tonorator
well, we have an update. all things considered, it could be worse. jean was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer, which will require surgery, chemo, and radiation. she is in for a long road over the next several months. right now she is talking to her doctors to decide if they will do the chemo/rad prior to surgery, or after. if they can do it before, then it may shrink the tumor and make the surgery a bit less major. they may, however, opt to do the surgery first if they want to get the tumor out right away. we are very happy that the docs did not come back with stage 3 or 4. according to the experts, 90% of those diagnosed with stage 2 are still living after 5 years. along with this, the docs are ~80% sure that the cancer has not spread. so we hang on this "good" news and await what happens next. thanks so much for all the prayers and thoughts. tonorator
quick update. jean's chemo is complete and her surgery is now scheduled for feb 20, which happens to be my wife's 40th birthday. heckuva b-day present. jackie will be going up to cleveland to be with her so we will not be together as a family for her grand day. she will then go back up the following week to be with her once she gets home. she will not be very mobile and will be dealing with the bag being hooked up to her. we had a bit of a scare because jean's heart was beating irregularly and there was some concern for blockage problems. they thought she might need heart stents put in prior to surgery but fortunately, her heart tests came back normal and the stents are not needed. would appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers. after surgery, we are probably looking at another round of stronger chemo. cancer is a biatch. tonorator
My prayers are still with you guys Tone..Keep us posted surgery went as scheduled on wednesday, taking about 5 hours. she's been in the ICU for the past 2 days due to some difficulties with breathing. they had her with a breathing tube which she kept trying pull out and eventually they needed to secure her hands. very good news today as she is breathing on her own and feeling much better. she's still in ICU, but should be out of there tomorrow. jackie is coming home tonight and then will go back up next week to be with her when she comes home from the hospital, which is when she will really need help. thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers!
