tazinib1
I was driving around the neighborhood last night and something struck me. The amount of houses with no X-Mas lights is amazing. And then I thought, wow, the economy is REALLY THAT BAD. Its a shame when a working family can't afford to string some lights over there roof cause they can't afford the electric bill. So i started counting. On average, in my neighborhood, there is 1..yes 1..house per block with some sort of lighting. Thats pathetic compared to years past when some of these blocks would war with each other over the best lighting show in the neighborhood. SheikYerbuti
I'm putting one of THESE up in my yard this year. Let's see the homeowners association try and stop me.

TimC
I'm putting one of THESE up in my yard this year. Let's see the homeowners association try and stop me. Holy....Is that what they used to kill Jesus??? I got our lights up after Thanksgiving. We actually went to Michaels and bought some wreaths and the parts (pine cones, apples, etc), she made them from scratch to hang on each outside window....that don't cost any electricity and it looks awesome. Doing it yerself saved a ton. We did 10 wreaths for like $70.00 when one would cost over $20.00 already made up.
Big Country
Cut a deal with my 4-year old that if he behaved for our family pictures last weekend that I would put up the lights and get our tree... so they are up. I usually prefer to wait a week or two after Thanksgiving to do it, my wife would have them up in July if she could, so this worked out ot be a reasonable compromise. We also have an inflatable penguin and polar bear on the lawn and I did order an inflatable, animated 14' train for the front yard. We had two of those inflatable snow globes last year, but some punks slashed the top of them so my lawn got littered wih the little white styrofoam balls... took months to get them all out of the lawn, so I needed to get new things this year and the train looked pretty cool. tazinib1
So maybe its more about what I'm used to. I guess I'm just used to seeing the lights go up the weekend after Thanksgiving so to not see them as I have become accustomed was rather shocking. I got it as a birthday gift and I hope it gives one of the Redskins fans around here a coronary. Edited December 4, 2008 by Kid Cid

CaP'N GRuNGe
Probably going to start with lights on Sunday. Don't have that many and I live next to Griswold so no matter what I put up it looks pitiful.

rajncajn
X is the symbol for Christ. I thought it was the symbol for Malcolm. You know, Malcomas formerly known as Kwanzaa.
gilthorp
Outside lights last Friday, and the tree went up on Saturday. It's somewhat a normal crowd so far. If they didn't get up last week, we've had snow here now so it's not going to be easy for the rest of the neighborhood to do it.

Egret
We don't usually do outdoor lights. Our son is three and asked for them this year. Lights are now half off at Lowe's. We ended up buying a bunch of LED lights.
